Turnbuckle posted that he noticed joint pain from continuous dosing of C60 (at .8mg, or 1.6 mg per day, not sure of his protocol.). He switched to weekly use of a larger dose, and the joint pain disappeared. I, too noticed joint pain with continuous dosing, and stopped. Pain is almost gone. First time I've had joint pain in the hip, There was some in one knee. I have resumed weekly dosing @16 mg.

My questions to the group: has anyone else experienced joint pain, and what was the resolution? Has anyone noticed any other negative effects?

I've been having some hip pain too, after about four days at 5 mg. I took a break and have been using a foam roller. The pain seems to be more at the insertion points of the hamstrings and the glutes perhaps than in the joints.

It could be the running I do too (35-40 miles/week).

To clarify, I noticed a pain in both calves that lasted several days and a pulsing pain in the back of my neck that lasted several hours. This was after a few days of taking a dose of .25 mg twice a day. And it wasn't C60, it was a mixture of C60 & C70--about 28% C70 and 2% higher. Previously I'd used C60 @ 99.5% purity, but now I've switched to 99.95% purity, as it seems that even a small amount of higher fullerenes may prove to be a problem.

No joint pains, but I did have this problem some time ago. This was from resveratrol, not C60. I did have a ligament injury after I began C60, but this was from running for miles on a forest bike trail and jumping over a fallen tree. I didn't work up to that level properly and I didn't stop after I felt the first twinge.

And my present weekly dosage isn't large--it's 1.5 mg, which seems sufficient.

Keep in mind your joint pain might just be the result of colder, drier, weather. I know I've been having some hip, knee, elbow pain but haven't taken c60/oo for a week now.

Also, resveratrol will definitely give you joint pain if your are prone to it because it's a mild estrogen antagonist; and, less estrogen means you hold less water and that can mean joint aches. Some people find supplementing with vitamin D works wonder on the resveratrol induced aches.

I think hat it's important to include a brief medical history for perspective and consideration. Do those that have experienced side effects such as pain have an inflammatory condition history?
I posted a few studies That show that C60 elevates TNF-a, an inflammatory marker. I have not experienced any pains, but I also take many TNF-a antagonists like resveratrol and curcumin . I also have a very low CRP (.4 ), and have no history of inflammatory or autoimmune disease.
I begin my second week of 1.6 mg C60 use tomorrow. I took this week off.

Those studies used a polyhydroxylated c60, a fairly different animal from the c60 that we're using, which has a couple fatty acids linked to it, but is otherwise more like pristine c60. Because of the involvement of ROS in chronic (but not short term) inflammation, we might expect it to act as something of an anti-inflammatory, in certain conditions.

The first time I stopped taking c60, I felt like I was going through a withdrawal syndrome, with higher levels of inflammation in general. This started about a week or ten days after taking 6mg total over four days. At the moment, I'm in my second off period, nine days out from a week of 2.5mg/day. If there is to be a withdrawal syndrome, it's not happening yet. Based on the first experience, I'd expect it to take another one to three weeks, but we'll see. It's always possible that my initial "withdrawal" sensations were colored by a couple injuries that I'd sustained. I'll just have to see how it goes this time around.

edit- Just to be clear, I never felt any pain while I was taking c60-oo; at least not that I could attribute to c60.

This paper has huge problems. I'd hate to see it be the start of an internet myth.

I too have hip pain, and my right hip/groin area is really tight and sore today. Also noticed a lack of flexibility in my hips since using the c60.

How old are you? Have you injured yourself in that area in the past? I've certainly found it easier to rip muscles, even just from stretching, but it's no different than regular ripps from a workout.

According to the mitophagy hypothesis, you may have cells dieing off and needing to be replaced in that area if the mitos in those cells were unhealthy, but the area should have recovered w/ new healthy cells by now if that were the case.

Mitophagy is the elimination of mitochondria, not of cells.

No more joint pain than before C60, just the usual mourning aches. But I never daily dosed, I started dosing every third day, did that for a month, and now dose once every ten days (or so, I am not percise).

Oops, so it is, I'm confusing that with my own thoughts in extention to the mitophagy hypothesis.

DId anyone else experience a problem with a plantar warts while on C60? I got an unusual number of them while on it. I have now been off of c60 for two weeks and most of them have gone away. I have gotten plantar warts before but never that many. I am careful about wearing flipflops in the shower, so I'm not sure where they came from.

Are you sure that's what they were? It seems unusual for them to disappear so fast.

BTW, there seems to be an interaction between papillomavirus and mitochondria and one drug used on plantar warts interferes with mitochondria, so ramping up mitochondrial function might do the reverse.

Yeah they were warts alright. I was using acid treatment for several weeks before I stopped the C60, and that's when they seemed to go away. I'm not sure the C60 was enhancing the spread of the papillomavirus but the timing seemed suspicious so I thought I'd mention it.

Someone with the papilloma virus should not be taking C60 olive oil, then?

I dunno.  In the past I've gotten plantar warts from time to time, and over the years I've become familiar with their behavior and with methods to remove them.  I picked up a couple warts some months back.  At first I wasn't even sure they were warts, although eventually that was what I decided they were.  However, they are growing anomalously slowly.  These are the first warts I've had while using c60, and I've begun to wonder if c60 was suppressing their growth in some way, as I've never had a wart that behaved quite like this.

I have been taking C60 since June 2012. I made a 800mg C60/1L OO mixture. Once a week I take a tablespoon ~15ml OO or ~12mg C60.  I bought the 99.5% SES C60 and mixed it myself for about a month with no filtering.  I am 70yo/6"/177lb and

very active athletically.

Recently I have developed lower back and neck pain that my doctors say is arthritis.  But I have no past history or family history of arthritis.

So I will stop taking the C60 mixture for a few months and see if the pains go away.

If I restart, I will try a higher purity C60 based on previous comments in this forum.  And perhaps a lower dose.

BTW: I have not noticed any beneficial effects that I can ascribe to C60oo, so I was taking it for life extension.

Any comments?
