Most Whole Foods have a meeting space. A lot of them host small clubs like vegan groups, etc.

Example: http://wholefoodsmar...ing-space-omaha

I will call and report back to this thread.

Prophets, Whole Foods looks like a good place to find like minded people who are concerned about their health now and will be in the future. It looks like they are a chain with lots of stores. Do they have a community bulletin board? What other schools are in the area, it would be great if we could inspire more students and faculty to take up the cause for ILE. They could become invaluable team members.

Every Whole Foods has a community bulletin board and typically some local charity/funds raising efforts. The bulletin boards are usually full of people offering guitar lessons, yard sales, massage therapist info, etc.

This specific Whole Foods is located in more of an uppity-young professional area and there isn't really any schools around (that I am aware of). I thought about moving to this area (mostly because I could personally live at this Whole Foods 24/7 and be happy).

I would suggest contacting a group like this and letting them know about the Longecity meeting: http://www.meetup.co...anshumanism-81/ if you are looking for new members. I think they would be more sympathetic to the cause than some random shot.

In terms of schools, I think Feinberg School of Medicine (Northwestern), Rush Medical, University of Illinois (Chicago), are around. Feel free to contact them.

Hmm, perhaps we can offer a discussion on futurism in general and how IDLs will affect lifestyles and other trends. We could have a "Businesses already live forever, soon their owners will too!" seminar or discussion.

I'd be all for having regular meetings at Whole Foods. But I like the idea of occasionally having them at different colleges to increase our numbers.

Great to see this topic picking up momentum for both a general meetup discussion as well as furthering entrepreneurial ideas. Hopping on a plane down the road is not too difficult and I'm hoping to spend more time up there this summer, but initially, if a place is selected that happens to have wifi I would definitely like the opportunity to g-videochat or skype in.

fyi -

heard from whole foods staff @ north kingsbury street. Told me their meeting room is undergoing renovation and they are not accepting group meetings at this time. not sure how large our group is, but we might be able to just go and meet there anyways (if we are 10-12 people). if we are a larger group, then we'd probably have to identify another location.

Check with local libraries and colleges. It's better if we have a dedicated place. We should have a presence for those who coming from a distance.

Thanks so much for checking it out prophets. Anyone have a particular date/week/month in mind? I tried for March 1st. Now I am looking at most weekends between now and the end of June. We will have to pick one soon. A weekend when we can get the most people to assemble.

I'm not from the area, so I'm waiting for others to post their responses. I'd definitely like to see a local meeting happen, though at this point I might be better off Skyping in from my distance. I'm still job seeking.

One option is the weekend of June 20-21. What do people think about that?

I will be in Chicago on business from June 19th through the 23rd and depending on the time(s) scheduled, will work around my business obligations to attend.

I think if we can get 2 or 3 more to commit to our little get-together for the 3rd weekend in June, then that will be the date.

Have to think about it. While Foods is a good option. First we will have to pin down the date and then we will see about a meeting place. Like the date/time, it will have to be a consensus that makes the most sense for the most people.

Good to hear, Allethrin. I was thinking about having it this weekend, June 21st or 22nd, but my job makes things a little dicey in the Summer - severe weather potential this weekend. Ilia has now been proposing an October 1st date to coincide with the "International Day of Older Persons". October 1st is a Tuesday, which might be possible for me because I will have some vacation days available. Otherwise we could shoot for the weekend before or the weekend after.

Even though early October is a potential date to aim for, I am not ruling out any weekend this Summer.

Anytime after June 5th is good for me. There is a place in Chicago called Next Door. It is a nonprofit owned by State Farm insurance and they offer large meeting rooms free of charge. You only have to be a resident of Chicago to reserve the space. Please notify me of the local meetings. I am in Chicago and would be happy to reserve the room. I will be in Europe until June 3, 2015.

Oh darn, I just noticed this discussion is old! Is there still any one interested in starting to meet in Chicago? Next door is an awesome place to meet. It's free and they provide white boards and there is a cafe inside. There are also many many new Whole Foods stores open in Chicago and they have cafés we can meet in if you prefer that. Let me know.

I'm sure there is still interest in having a meetup. You can fill out the questionnaire or get involved as a meeting leader using the responses.

I have received confirmation from Native Foods Cafe managers.  They look forward to hosting us on June 13th from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM.

Members: Please add your name to this thread if you plan to attend, so that we can firm up headcount as the date nears.

Should we cancel this?  Do we have any list of people going?  I'd like to meet, but I'm not sure what to do.

Let us continue to plan on being there. A meeting of two is better than a meeting of zero, IMO

In my experience with other organizations, you have to have phone numbers to get things organized, and even then it's not easy. I have some contact information on my local chapters survey responses. Not sure how many people it is though. Sent you a pm with it.

We've not been able to get a firm list together of people and I have a family matter to attend to in the suburbs.  Therefore, I cannot make it. I've notified James Cain and Mind.  I apologize for any inconvenience, but it doesn't seem like we have a hard headcount and I have something that has come up on my end.

Best,

pro
