Hello Everyone,

I'm back with a brand new Nootropic trial and a brand new log. Many of you know me from my Aniracetam trial which can be found HERE. I have since completed my Aniracetam trial and have know moved on to Piracetam. This log will be updated daily with my reports of Piracetam. I'll do my best to report as much information as possible and I look forward to chatting with all of you and learning from you.

Day 1 2/5/2013

My order of Piracetam arrived today. I ordered 3 bottles of capped Piracetam from Smart Drugs For Thoughts. Each container has 180 capsules of 800 mg Piracetam. I've read that Piracetam can take a while to build up to proper levels I decided to go ahead and get started. The dose range for Piracetam is a lot different than Aniracetam. When I was taking Ani I knew to take 1500 mg a day.

Piracetam is a little different as it can range from 800 mg to 4500 mg to 8,000 mg. In some cases even more. After doing some research it appears that 3200 mg a day to 4800 mg a day is pretty common and effective. So I will start with 3200 mg for tonight just so I can just get Piracetam in my system. So let's get on with my log:

8:56 pm - I took 3200 mg of Piracetam which is 4 capsules. I've heard reports that Piracetam can give some people problems sleeping when taken later in the evening so hopefully I don't have any issues. On a side note I hear some people report cool dreams. So that would be a plus if I could get some of those.

9:30 pm - I'm feeling a little different already. It's similar to how I felt when I first took Aniracetam. It's not a bad feeling or anything, but it's a feeling letting me know that the Piracetam is doing something. The feeling is similar to a rush in my head.

10:30 pm - Nothing special to report. I feel pretty normal

12:00 am - I'm feeling a little bit of tension in the center of my head. Once again, nothing really bad. No pain or anything, just a sharp tension.

2:32 am - I decided to go to bed, but to be honest I'm not sleepy. I feel pretty awake and I'm having trouble falling asleep.
============================================================================================================

DAY 2: 2/6/2013

Morning: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

I never had any vivid or lucid dreams the night before, at least none that I can remember.

10:30 am - I woke up around my usual time, ate a small breakfast and than decided that I will take 2400 mg of Piracetam. This comes out to be 3 capsules. I took them with a large glass of water as Piracetam is water soluble compared to Aniracetam which is Fat Soluble.

11:30 am - I'm starting to feel pretty good. I fell a little more alert, a little more awake. It wasn't a huge difference and honestly it could be placebo effect, but I still wanted to note it. I'm usually pretty tired still, but I feel quite good.

Lunch: 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

12:11 pm - I'm feeling around the same as I was earlier. A little more alert, upbeat and more energy.

12:30 pm - I'm starting to notice a difference. I'm noticing I'm having a lot of ideas and thoughts. I felt like my brain was working overtime to help me produce ideas and different thoughts for my business. I felt very motivated and a strong sense to read or learn. It's pretty interesting and I must admit I like it! This is a much different feeling than Aniracetam. I don't feel tired or chilled. I feel sort of hyper, stimulated...

2:01 pm - I go to lunch and decided to take another 2400 mg of Piracetam .

3:15 pm - I get back to work and my mind is still on fire, in a good way. Thoughts are flowing, I'm asking myself questions which are causing me to think up new ideas and solution. I'm noticing I'm talking much faster as well. My wife reported this to me and my boss.

Evening: 5:00 pm - Bedtime:

5:47 pm - The urge to learn/read is pretty strong right now. It's like when your craving your favorite food. You just have to it. Well I feel like my brain just wants to consume information. It's as if I have it turned on full power, but it has nothing to do.

7:34 pm - I'm running out to get something to eat and I have the windows down in my car. For some reason I could swear that sound is more enhanced. I'm noticing every little noise cars make around me. I'm noticing the noise their car makes when the breaks stop, the sound of when they make a turn or the suspension when a car hits a bump in the road. I usually don't notice any of this.

10:58 pm - I have some work to do so I decided to pop another 1600 mg of Piracetam which is 2 capsules. I feel as if my thoughts have calmed down a little now. Things seem to be a little more smooth now. I'm noticing that as I work and type that my writing voice has changed. I feel like my writing isn't as smooth and I'm choosing words I usually don't use. I feel like I'm struggling a little bit more to write than when I was on Aniracetam. It's hard to describe.

Overall:

Once again, sorry this log is all over the place. It's 3:00 in the morning right now and I'm a little tired. I need some more organization with this thread and it will get better in time. My first impression is good so far. I can't say if all of this is the Piracetam or placebo effect. Either way, I like the way I feel on Piracetam more than Aniracetam so far. I know I need to build up the Piracetam in my system. So for the next few days I will stick with either a dose of either 4800 mg a day or a little more and see where that takes me. Once again bare with me and I'll get things a little more organized tomorrow.

Allright, good luck again!
I think you'll benefit more from this one, after reading your previous log.
Piracetam is more clear and sharp imo.

After some time I don't notice the visual enhancement and mania-like symptoms anymore. But as a base-nootropic I still experience benefits in mdmory, recall and some mood/motivation-enhancement. I use it on and off nowadays, going through 500grams and then stop. Dosing varies from 1600-4800mg a dose. After quitting for a while, it seems to work better again.

But like you said; everyone is different and can respond differently. Looking forward reading your experience!

Hi Remone,

Thanks for checking out the log. I believe your right in that I'll enjoy Piracetam more. It has a much different vibe to Aniracetam for me. Although I'm not sure how much it's working on me as I just started to take it, but I do feel more clear and sharp as you put it. I haven't received any visual enhancements that I know of yet. I'm curious what you mean when you say mania like symptoms? How long did you take it till you felt effects and what effects did you notice.

The hardest part for me with Piracetam is trying to figure out dosage. With Aniracetam at least you had a recommended dosage that most people agreed on which was around 1500 mg a day, but with Piracetam the dose seems to be all over the place. I'm planning to stick with 3200 mg in the morning and another 3200 mg in the afternoon for a while starting today.

Do you have to cycle off with Piracetam? Like for every 3 months take a month off or something like that?

Thanks for your input

Josh

What I mean with mania-like symptoms: almost hyperactive, razorsharp, much energy, quickly solving 'problems'. But also with a downside, had to watch out I didnt become too sharp for the people around me.
I don't remember how long it took for the full effects. I guess 3-7 days.
Must say that how much it affected me the first time, isn't the way it effects me nowadays anymore. But it still is a nootropic I use daily for working where I enjoy the vibe of energy and focus it gives me.
Aniracetam can take of the edge of pira for me.

Dosage is really something you should 'learn'. I like to start 1-2 weeks with 5g doses 2 or 3 daily. Then lower the doses to see if it still works.
I cycle it just to enjoy the effects more and to monitor if it still is working. Also just to try different things. But I don't know if it really is needed.

I've been pretty busy with work, but I've been keeping up with my logs on my phone. So here are all the days to bring me current with today. I'll post today's log sometime tomorrow.

Day 3

Total Dose For The Entire Day: 6400 mg

10:35 am - took 4 capsules which is 3200 mg with water along with krill oil

12:06 pm - I feel okay, energized, but I don't feel my mind flooding with ideas like I did yesterday. I still feel pretty Alert. Nothing major though.

12:47 pm - I'm just reading the forums learning more about Piracetam. I feel okay, nothing special and nothing bad really. I did go to bed pretty late last night so lack of sleep needs to be a factor. I'm thinking I may take a choline pill with my next dose. I don't actually need Choline as I never get headaches but might try it out.

3:12 pm - took 4 capsules which is 3200 mg with water along with krill oil and a 500 mg Choline Bititrate

4:07 pm - Nothing special to report, I feel alert to a degree. The feeling I'm having is similar to a small cup of coffee

6:01 pm - feeling sort of tired. I think it's just because how late I went to bed. I feel pretty good overall. Beside being sleepy

8:48 pm - Nothing to report. I'm not taking any more Piracetam tonight so I don't expect much tonight

10:05 pm - I'm calling it a night as Im pretty tired.

Day 4

Total Dose For The Day: 9600 mg

11:22 am - I took 4800 mg which is 6 pills with Krill Oil, Multi vitamin and curacuim. I've decided I will try this dosage for a while based on a post I read from Science Guy here on the forum where he states 4800 mg is actually considered a low dosage and one should be taking 4800 mg or more a day. So I will try this for a while.

12:11 pm - I must admit I feel pretty good right now. Hard to explain, but I just feel in a much better mood. I feel very motivated as well. I'm having lots of different ideas and I'm feeling pretty focused.

3:20 pm - I took another 4800 mg of Piracetam along with a Krill Oil and another Multi Vitamin. For those wondering Krill Oil is basically a more enhanced version of Fish Oil. It has a better bio-availability and also has some other fats and good stuff for the brain.

4:57 pm - Feeling pretty awesome. Very clear and crisp. My mind is flowing and I just feel in the zone.

8:52 pm - feeling a little tension in my head still. Very slight. Went to the store and didnt feel nervous or anything. I was very focused on what I wanted. I did notice that things were bothering me a little bit more than usual. I felt like I was getting annoyed at people much easier. I'm pretty laid back, but felt like if someone was in my way they needed to move. I was a little snappy at my wife as well, but nothing major.

10:50 pm - Did some Dual N Back and other brain training. I'm noticing on the games where I usual get low scores I'm blowing them out the part! I have notice a increase in problem solving.

12:30 am - I decided to get some late night work done and I'm like an animal. I'm getting so much done. I'm just very focused and in the zone and even though I feel tired I want to keep working. I've noticed that I do write better on Aniracetam though. I seem to have a little bit more trouble writing and typing up blog post on Piracetam. It's as if I can't decide if what I write is any good and so I keep revising it.

3:30 am - Bedtime

Day 5

Total Dose For The Day: 9600 mg

10:00 am - Woke up, ate breakfast, took shower

11:07 am - took 4800 mg which is 6 pills with Krill Oil and Curamin

1:29 pm - I feel okay, alert a little, but I notice I seem to get a little more upset when people bother me when I'm doing something. I seem to have a harder time multi tasking too. I noticed this the other day, but it seems to be increasing from the other day. I felt like I slept terrible too. I just couldn't fall asleep. I think Piracetam can give you issues with sleep sometimes. I just feel like my mind won't shut off when I sleep. Oddly though I'm usually dragging, but I feel like I have a lot more energy.

3:30 pm - There is no doubt Piracetam helps me with getting stuff done. I knocked out an assignment that would usually take a while within a few minutes. Mainly because I lose my train of thought and get distracted easy, but not this time. It's like I'm a misson and can get anything done. Feeling great. I forgot to take my second dose though because I had errands to run and didn't get to come home on lunch.

5:25 pm - Got home from work and took another 4800 mg of Piracetam with Krill Oil and Mulit Vitamin. I don't like to take it this late as I noticed the later in the evening I take it the harder to sleep.

6:00 pm - Feeling good, but starting to get a little tired. It's day 5 and no need for Choline at all. I did take some the other day just because, but no actually need for it yet.

6:30 pm - really tired, but I have been going to bed late lately. I usually get tired after work. I don't have the same energy I usually do. I feel this has to be from the lack of quality sleep lately. I won't blame this 100 percent on the Piracetam as I'm a night owl and like to stay up late. The difference is when I'm ready to go to bed I can usually clock out quickly, but while on Piracetam it takes me a little longer to get to sleep. I'm going to take a nap.....

8:23 pm - I took a little nap and now I'm feeling pretty good for the most part, alert ..been doing different brain training and dual N Back again and have noticed an increase in ability and score after taking Piracetam compared to not taking it. I reach Dual N Back 3 again. I still can't get past level 3 though. My scores are continuing to raise with the different brain games I'm using. I use Fitbrain which is an app in the Appstore.

8:45 pm - I've been solving problems much easier lately. I had some issues with my business that have been bothering me, but I was able to figure out a solution quickly and easy. I still noticing I'm getting annoyed pretty easy though when someone interrupts me. I was in the middle of doing something and my wife needed me and I snapped a little bit. Luckily I informed my wife before I begin this trial that irritability is a normal side effect and to let me know when I'm being a little snappy.

11:00 pm - Working on my personal side business and once again I'm in the zone. I just feel focused and that I could work all night.

3:00 am - Bedtime

Day 6

Total Daily Dose For The Day: 9600 mg

10:24 am - I took six 800 mg Piracetam pills which equals 4800 mg with some Krill Oil and a Multi-Vitamin

11:30 am - Feeling great, full of energy, great mood. The one thing I love about Piracetam is that my mind seems to always be full of new ideas for everything for personal stuff, business, work or whatever. I've noticed negative self talk has decreased as well. I'm still getting upset a little easier than I'm used too, but it's not a huge problem. I must say I like Piracetam a lot better than Aniracetam.

12:00 pm - Still feeling good. Mood is high. I'm feeling a tad bummed though as I still have never received the enhanced vision or enhanced sound or anything. Oh well. For anyone wondering I haven't felt anything in the traditional sense from Piracetam. It's all background stuff that I'm noticing. For me it's not like I feel a switch turned on. I just notice and track how I feel and report anything I notice

3:15 pm - I take another six 800 mg capsules to equal another 4800 mg

8:00 pm - Nothing really interesting been going on. Still feel good, energy high, mind filled with ideas still

11:45 pm - I've decided I'm going to go to bed early. I've noticed I feel much better with some sleep. Makes sense since when I take Piracetam I feel like my brain is working overtime. So I should give it some much needed rest.

4:45 am - I had to report this. I just woke up from a Lucid Dream. Very cool! During the dream I just released I was dreaming and suddenly I became aware. I had full control of the dream and let's just say I enjoyed myself :) okay...back to bed now. End of log

Thoughts

As I'm writing this it's actually day 7 and just want to say I'm enjoying Piracetam. It has a much different vibe to me than Aniracetam did. I'm very curious to try and take Ani and Piracetam together, but may do this in a few days just to report the effects. Piracetam is much cleaner in the sense that I don't feel tired or feel odd as I did with Aniracetam. I just feel good. Something I think I left off out of my logs so far is my confident level. I feel like I can do anything to a degree.

I don't feel as if I should hold back. I'm also noticing I'm becoming a little more talkative and sensetive as well. The sensetive thing is interesting as I'm usually very quiet and keep to myself. My creatitivy seems to be about normal, but I will admit that I'm producing a lot more thoughts. In the end, so far Piracetam is pretty awesome! Starting later this week I may lower my dose to about 2400 mg twice a day to see how I feel for a while. Well I got to run, but having fun so far...I'm hoping a lower dose may help with the irritability as well.

Hi Josh,

Your detailed Logs -- ahi & now pira -- are super valuable on so many levels! Many thanks & I look forward to how this pira trial continues to unfold for you.

I have just a couple of questions if you could share your thinking / insights...

First, you mentioned that piracetam is water soluble yet your log shows you taking the Krill Oil along with it -- as you did with ahi which is fat soluble. Can you explain why you still combine pira with Krill Oil, e.g. any synergies between them or perhaps for their distinct benefits??

Second, I'm curious why you take Curamin. I hear it's a potent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory... Is it somehow synergistic with your nootropic stack?

Thirdly, I see you're a night owl, but also need your sleep and the pira can seems to block sleep... do you -- or anyone else -- know if it's ok to take a stronger sleep aid like Ambien, short or long term with piracetam?

Fourth, is pircetam supported by taking with a cholinergic synergist like CPC- Choline or Centrophenoxine?

Lastly, I use Lumosity for brain training. How much have you felt lira helping you score better on brain training 'games'?

I appreciate all your detailed & interesting posts on this. I am taking Centrophenoxine for 2 - 3 weeks, then am planning to add piracetam for some heavy duty science textbook study and hope that is a productive direction for my evolving stack.

P.S. sorry for the types... it's late here... I just thought I'd let you know how excellent the GABAergic Picamilon is working for me 2-3X50mg / day, as a mood stabilizer. Just wondering if the Picamilon might aid you with sensitivity especially interactively with the pira. Cheers!

Hi PT,

Thanks for the wonderful words and I'll do my best to answer your questions for you. Please forgive the long answers as I tend to type very long responses. Something I'm trying to work on :) Please keep in mind I'm no expert or anything. I'm just a guy who enjoys testing this stuff and learning :) Let the answers begin:

Question 1: First, you mentioned that piracetam is water soluble yet your log shows you taking the Krill Oil along with it -- as you did with ahi which is fat soluble. Can you explain why you still combine pira with Krill Oil, e.g. any synergies between them or perhaps for their distinct benefits??

First off, you are correct when Piracetam is water soluble. I have been taking Krill Oil as a daily supplement long before I ever got interested in the subjects of Nootropics. Krill Oil is basically a more advanced form of fish oil which is just good for you overall. It has a better bio-availability than fish oil and has some Omega fat's which fish oil doesn't. It also has some extra benefits in terms of overall brain health.

I only take it because it's just a great supplement to take for overall health and it has nothing to do with the Piracetam. So when I do take the Krill Oil I'm just taking it as a supplement which has benefits to my overall health and now specifically for use with the Piracetam. I'm a big believer in taking a few supplements which cover the overall base of personal health and exercise.

Now I have heard from a few members here on this forum that even though Piracetam is water Soluble that fish oil seems to enhance it's effects in some people. So if that is the case that would mean Krill Oil would also enhance the effects of Piracetam since Krill Oil is pretty much just a more advanced form of Fish Oil. Once again, this is just what I heard and I have no tested this theory myself, but may do it in the future and try to take Piracetam without Krill out to see if I notice any difference.

So the only reason I'm taking it is just because it's a great supplement to take. Now "personally" I would like to believe that Krill Oil does have some synergies with nootropics since Krill Oil is known to have positive benefits for the brain as well, but that is just a theory at this moment. Here is a link that tells you everything you need to know about Krill Oil. I would love if some people who take Krill Oil as well can chime in. Krill Oil Sorry for the long answer but it just comes down to Krill Oil has a lot of great properties :)

Question 2: I'm curious why you take Curamin. I hear it's a potent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory... Is it somehow synergistic with your nootropic stack?

This answer is pretty much the same as the first one. I've been taking Curamin long before I've been involved in Nootropics. Curamin, in my opinion is one of the best supplements you can take for overall health. I take the Terry Naturally brand which contains BCM-95 which gives it a much higher bio availability. Curamin helps with depression, heart problems, blood pressure, cancer, pain, digestion, lots of great anti-oxidant protection and a lot more stuff. It's pretty expensive though, but I consider it one of my premier supplements. I don't believe it has any synergistic with Piracetam. Once again, I just take it as part of my overall health.

My daily supplements are a good Men's Mulit Vitamin 2 times a day, Curamin twice a day and Krill Oil twice a day. In addition to whatever Nootropic I'm currently testing out which as you know is Piracetam. Expensive, but great supplement in my opinion. Here is a link dealing with Curamin

Question 3: Thirdly, I see you're a night owl, but also need your sleep and the pira can seems to block sleep... do you -- or anyone else -- know if it's ok to take a stronger sleep aid like Ambien, short or long term with piracetam?

Yeah, i've always been a night owl. I tend to wake up around 9:45 am every morning and go to bed around 3:00 am or 4:00 am every night. Night time is just when I have free time to work on projects, play some video games, watch a movie or chill out. When I can I do like to go to bed early when taking nootropics as I'm a big believer that better overall health and sleep makes for a better experience with Nootropics, especially the racetams. I have noticed even when taking my second dose of Piracetam at 3:00 pm which is usually a 4800 mg dose that I still feel alert and energized when I go to bed around 3:00 am.

I have no experience with Ambien and have never taken it before. Sometimes I do take a benedryl allergy tab before going to bed to help me sleep. I do suffer from bad allergies though. I'm sorry I can't be more help with this question.

Question 4: Fourth, is pircetam supported by taking with a cholinergic synergist like CPC- Choline or Centrophenoxine?

This depends on the person. Some people HAVE to take some type of Choline source when taking racetams since it uses Choline as a fuel in a sense. These people will usually develop a headache if they don't take choline. On the other hand there are people like me who appear to be choline dominant and don't need to take Choline at all with the racetams. I have never NEEDED to take any Choline as I have never experienced headaches while taking racetams. I still get the effects from Piracetam without choline.

Now personally I will take choline every once in a blue moon just to add a little bit of fuel to the flame in so many words. I have never noticed any real improvement from taking the choline with Aniracetam or with piracetam. In the past I have tried Choline Bitiratre and CDP Choline with Aniracetam and never noticed any real improvements because of it. I haven't tried Alpha GPC yet, but may in the future just to try it for the sake of trying it. :)

My body doesn't like CDP Choline at all as I get very bad nausea when taking it. So long story short the choline issue depends on the person. I recommend you start without any Choline and if you develop headaches start taking a small dose and work your way up till you found your sweet spot. If your choline dominant like me than maybe just once in a while pop a 250 mg or 500 mg just to see how you feel. I'm very careful with choline because too much can cause depression and other problems so In my opinion always start low and work your way up if you require Choline. Some people are also fine taking Choline every other day. So it really just depends on the person and takes a little bit of trial and error.

Question 5: Lastly, I use Lumosity for brain training. How much have you felt Pira helping you score better on brain training 'games'?

yes, I use Lumosity as well. I think Dual N Back is a better test overall to notice improvement, but I have noticed improvements while on Piracetam. Especially games dealing with memory. I've always been a pretty smart person and had a high IQ, but I did lots of training in Lumosity and Dual N Back BEFORE beginning Piracetam so I could develop a sort of baseline. Than I would do testing while on Piracetam and notice really nice improvements and gains.

I could do a lot better when it comes to proper ways to test this stuff out, but I know for a fact. My scores, speed and problem solving have increased from Piracetam.

Sorry for the long answers and I hope this helps. Thanks for the recommendation about GABAergic Picamillon. I don't know much about it but will look into it thanks. Thanks for following the long.

Thanks Josh.

Awesome info. & personal nootropic & general health feedback! Super valuable. Thanks so much!

I ordered 250g Piracetam powder today and will start working with it next week. I like Lumosity as it tracks brain function / cognitive performance on 5 parameters: memory, attention speed, flexibility & problem solving. I plan to develop a dynamic cycled nootropic stack to aid me in my PhD studies with all the brain function challenges that come with being at age 57. To date, my slowest to improved cog. dimension is speed & flexibility. I'm at only 55th percentile on speed yet 93rd percentile on memory.

I've been working with 500mg X2 / day Centrophenoxine now for 2 weeks which has felt very positive, increased brain blood flow, clearer vision, better cognition 9 yet not speed) and oddly, a noticeable saliva clarity & saliva sweetness. Centrophen feels more like a brain detox process. I plan to keep using Centrophenoxine once I add Piracetam for it's Cholinergic syergistic benefits.
