DKK-1 is what is upregulated when DHT interacts with the hair follicle that causes hair follicles to die.

http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/21034532

Preventable effect of L-threonate, an ascorbate metabolite, on androgen-driven balding via repression of dihydrotestosterone-induced dickkopf-1 expression in human hair dermal papilla cells.

....

Collectively, these results indicate that L-threonate inhibited DKK-1 expression in DPCs and therefore is a good treatment for the prevention of androgen-driven balding.

This study theorizes that L-Threonate can prevent DHT from upregulating DKK1. Ok so there's ONE supplement I've found on the market that contains the L-threonate metabolite of vitamin C and it's not too pricey (about $8) but it's not pure threonic acid either. Can somebody check my theorizing here? I guess the best way to apply would be crushed into a powder, mixed with shampoo and applied topically?

Yes, I know this is probably not going to work. I'll probably end up paying for a hair transplant in a few years.

Ive seen calcium L-Threonate and Magnesium L-Threonate, Id just start taking (ingesting) one of those. An added benefit for Magnesium L-Threonate is that I have noticeably better mental clarity whenever Im taking.

Have you tried topical dutasteride + regaine mixed together in the prop.glycol solution, combined also with use of Ketaconozole shampoo, i.e. combine two known DHT inhibitors, and one known hair booster (minoxidil)?

So I got some Now Foods AlphaSorb-C 500 (with Threonic Acid) and mixed it with my caffeine shampoo, which at best has only slowed my hair loss. Took a before picture. Will do this for a week or two and see if anything happens.

Edit: Well this stuff makes my hair stick together like hair moose. Will wash it off in the morning.

So nothing too exciting to report yet. I would expect at least a week to go by for anything to happen. However, the supplement powder is great for keeping my hair neatly combed all day.

Even if it works you won't notice anything for months and months given the long triphasic growth cycles of hairs.

The L-Threonate didn't do much, except help my combed back hair stay in place throughout the day. I switched over to a combination of caffeine shampoo and uncapped fo-ti on my scalp. My hair is about the same so far, which is better than having less of it. Without some sort of stem-cell rejuvenation I doubt there's a good way to regrow hair from follicles that have stopped producing.

Here's the study that made me add the fo-ti (polygnum multiflorum) into the caffeine shampoo:

Topical application of Polygonum multiflorum extract induces hair growth of resting hair follicles through upregulating Shh and β-catenin expression in C57BL/6 mice.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE:
Polygonum multiflorum has traditionally been used for treating patients suffering from baldness and hair loss in East Asia.AIM OF THE STUDY:
The present study sought to investigate the hair growth promoting activities of Polygonum multiflorum and its mechanism of action.MATERIALS AND METHODS:
The Polygonum multiflorum extract was topically applied to the shaved dorsal skin of telogenic C57BL6/N mice. To determine the effect of Polygonum multiflorum extract in telogen to anagen transition, the expression of β-catenin and Sonic hedgehog (Shh) was determined by immunohistochemistry analysis.RESULTS:
Polygonum multiflorum extract promoted hair growth by inducing anagen phase in telogenic C57BL6/N mice. In Polygonum multiflorum extract treated group, we observed increase in the number and the size of hair follicles that are considered as evidence for anagen phase induction. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that earlier induction of β-catenin and Shh were observed in Polygonum multiflorum extract treated group compared to that in control group.CONCLUSION:
These results suggest that Polygonum multiflorum extract promotes hair growth by inducing anagen phase in resting hair follicles.

let me quote that again for you:

Oh great! I need to get on a memory stack!
Well at least the neurogenesis, alzheimer's, and osteoarthritis is new.
And you can now try L-ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (Asc 2-P) topically?
