Hi there I was basically wondering about the L-Carnitine supplement in the form of ALCAR (Acetyl L-Carnitine) and I was interested in trying it if there are any sort of memory benefits (not sure if there is to this level but basically I have trouble remembering what happened a few days ago) do you think it would help for that and also for OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) symptoms? and also for anxiety or ADHD symptoms

Also do you know of any other sort of vitamins or something i may be deficient in causing the trouble remembering what happened a few days ago (I'm interested in b vitamins, but i don't know what other things I can have in a non-drug like way more of a correcting a potential deficency way)

another question I am also interested in is how safe is l-carnitine because I have researched that it does seem likely safe but what I am worried of is that maybe it will cause a dependency and if you stop your intelligence/cognition may drop further than baseline or drop suddenly making you feel dumb? And so it would be possibly not be desireable for that reason?

Thanks so much :)

Hi CP. Don't know if this is relevant, but when I quit drinking a couple years ago I had a terrible problem with brain fog. I hadn't used any recovery drugs (benzos), so I was very surprised when I had to start writing notes to myself if I wanted to remember even the simplest of things the next day.

I tried quite a few supplements before I found ALCAR, but in the end, this is what fixed up my brain fog. I was actually quite surprised by how well it worked. I never took more than 500mg/day (empty stomach with full glass of water) as I'm a big believer in low doses. 500mg a day was all it took. No side effects that I noticed.

Regarding the dependency... I haven't quit the ALCAR for any substantial length of time, but I have gone on vacation for a couple of weeks without it and didn't notice any difference over this short time.

Hope this helps.

ALCAR and B-vitamin supplementation are good places to look at; also try increasing your omega-3 fatty acid intake. Daily fish oil supplementation is a good way to do that.
