I found that i can easily use pumpkin seeds which seemed to be overstacked with magnesium, as an alternative to costlier magnesium tablets.

What are your thoughts on this?

What would be the exact magnesium compound in pumpkin seeds?

That's an awful lot of pumpkin seeds to just get magnesium. You really plan to eat 100 grams daily, or probably 1/4th of your entire daily intake in calories, in just pumpkin seeds? That's also quite a bit of fat and a fair amount of iron too.

As for costly magnesium supplements... no idea where you are looking, but magnesium is pretty cheap. Mag oxide (which is fine, despite false absorption claims) is really dirt cheap.

Thanks for the reply,

But isnt MgO the same compound found in antacids?

Does that mean, some amount of magnesium gets absorbed everytime i take an antacid?

Mag oxide can be used as an antacid, although I think they commonly use calcium carbonate instead. Check the threads here on various forms of magnesium, and you could choose something besides mag oxide if you want. The main issue with magnesium is that some people have digestive issues when consuming too much -- don't overdo it, or you'll spend all of your time in the bathroom. A resonable dose is fine for most people.

A lot of people here have used mag glycinate, which tends to cause a bit less in the way of symptoms than citrate. But it will vary by person. Regardless, look at iherb and Swanson's and I am sure you can find inexpensive brands of magnesium.

Pumpkin seeds can act estrogenic. On a side note, I took LEF's pumpkin seed product for a while and it weakened my erections very noticeably as did their triple action cruciferous vegetable formula. !

Keep in mind plant sources for magnesium are often laden with phytic acid and/or oxalates. These will bind and steal your minerals and in the case of the latter increase your risk of kidney stones.

I tried most forms of Magnesium up to the insane amount 1,8 g/d (elemental) to help alleviate muscle cramps from a magnesium deficiency. Finally I found 'Donat Mg' mineral water with about 1040 mg/l Mg for € 1,19 in local markets. No more expensive imports of magnesium compounds not available here for me :). However, some don't like it's taste or get the shits. Not me, and I like the extra bonus of 3,3 mg of lithium per liter.
