Yes, it would add or subtract TY points.

Seems to be broken now.

The rogue which gave me 3 down-votes within 1 Minute received within the last 10 days 30 / 20 / 23, and gave 31 / 45 / 88 points at the same time. Anyone came across a profile more angry?
Within 16 days the same person received 35 / 23 / 24, but gave 34 / 77 / 123 in total.

Abuse: As before, if you think someone is abusing the system you can alert a moderator. The votes ARE anonymous, even to moderators, but administrators have the option to look 'behind the blind' if they actively choose to do so.

I must admit, I'm more partial to the old like(+) and dislike (-) icons. I'm sure I'll get used to the new system as time passes.

I can't decide whether I like the new system better. But what would really be cool is if you could view the posts that have been rated recently. Because sometimes you see your rating go up, and you think, someone liked my post, but you never know which one.

Interesting. Your rating is going up? I've gotten a ton of likes and what not since this new system was established and my net worth value hasn't changed one bit.

When the change to the new system initially occurred, that's what happened to me as well I think. I would get likes but my "net worth" would not go up. But now it's been fixed. I don't know the exact formula of how likes and other ratings translate into net worth, but it has gone up since the system changed to multiple ratings, yes. Maybe you got a lot of negative ratings too?

You read my mind. But first, go into your profile and look at the Ratings Received field. Then after I like your post, we'll see if that value goes up. Also, click on your T, and remember what your net worth is to the first decimal point. Tell me when you're done.
Ratings Received 61 / 5 / 0

Anything happen?

The "ratings received" field indicated a change but not the net worth calculation.
Posted 23 July 2014 - 11:39 PM
OK, try liking my post. You can undo it later if you want. My ratings received are 23 / 2 / 10 and I'm on 24.70 net worth.

Same thing. Ratings received are now 25 / 2 / 10, but net worth in unchanged. Strange days indeed.
Your net worth just went up by one!

I'm pretty sure they're working on it. Though I have seen the TY system be on delay from time to time.
We've been working on alot of site development stuff. When sites start to get old, they accumulate junk similar to the way that we age and they require more and more work. This site has been around for a while and has been migrated a few times. Thus the site development fundraiser.
Posted 23 July 2014 - 11:51 PM
Hmm. I guess that's our answer.
I intend to make a donation when I settle into my next role. It's going to take a little time. The market's been rough on me but I do love this site and hope to support it with more than my attention to threads in the future.
Posted 23 July 2014 - 11:52 PM
I suppose the next step might be to close this one down and move it to a subdomain for archival purposes. Then we can start with a fresh install. This has happened to more than a few forums that I am aware of. Basically, you just grab the member database and stick it in the new one. It's alot of work either way though.
Of course, I'm not an Engineer and probably not nearly as good a coder as our engineers are, so I don't know what the best course of action to take would be or what they're actually going to do. I'm just speculating.

I guess junk is a bad characterization. but modules of forums change and some features get left behind or replace with others and the people who make the plugin make it for version 3.1.1.1.1 and then they update 3.1.1.1.2 and the plugin/feature designer has retired or had a kid and is no longer able to work on it, but the site needs to be upgraded to 3.1.1.1.2 for security reasons to keep the hackers away and the users safe. We wind up having to update the feature to work with the newest version on our own from our volunteer pool, or by hiring someone to do it for us. We're a little behind at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if we run another site development fundraiser after this one. I'd like to get put some money in reserve for getting more site development work done so we can run a bit smoother or get some kind of website insurance if it exists.

Do you guys frequently find indication of people penetrating your database and breaking it? I suspect it's happening.
Posted 24 July 2014 - 04:50 AM
The "nuanced" feedback was when you had to write comments in your own words. Check out my blog post which garnered four times more views than usual, and a number of positive comments. I'm a published writer. The new feedback system was used to tell me that they "disliked" my personal post about a lost love.

Under the old system, we could remove comments from out blogs. We can't remove these ones.

No, we haven't seen anything like that. The database problems are rare, it's just the software.

It was mentioned in the start of this thread that the feedback buttons for posts are no longer linked to your reputation/thank you points:
This has now been implemented, in partial trial mode.
Unfortunately, the new system no longer allows for automatic awarding/subtracting of thankyou points. We may need to decide whether that is too high a price to pay.
₮
This new system is awesome, but automatic awarding and subtracting of 'Thankyou' points is an important part of showing people's post reputation. Is there no way to include this feature?
I think the new system is good and don't find it complicated, I actually think it helps provide more insight into potential down/up votes - and people seem to be using the buttons more than the old ones... But, it must be linked to thankyou points, otherwise it's not worth it :/
Posted 24 July 2014 - 10:10 PM
Thanks onz for paying attention. We are hoping and trying to get the link to ₮ points restored. We are willing to throw some money at a solution, but it's not straightforward.
Bear in mind though that the main rout for getting ₮ points is NOT meant to be forum 'likes' but doing some 'good deeds' for the community. Stay tuned for a new awards feature (the odd icons you currently see under my profile).

Because of not answering my question above - I slowly but surely suspect it to be stream-lining to the opinions of some moderators. The new accounts which down-vote as mad seem protected.

We award users for things like welcoming people in the introductions forum, uploading videos, writing blog entries, putting significant effort into a post, and things like that. Participating in votes (members only) is another way to earn points.

Users should only be able to vote 3 times per day, so there is a limit to the damage they can do. If you vote actively on each other's posts, it should be harder for individuals to make a dent in post ratings. If you see someone getting neg'd, read their post and see what you think. The best thing to do is promote a positive atmosphere and give nice votes to people whose posts you like or make an impact on you. You get extra votes as a member. I try to use my votes ever day.
