In view of the revelations that US-based email provider have back doors where the government can read all our emails, I wonder if there is a privacy friendly email company, based in a privacy friendly country? Any ideas? Anyone used Hushmail?

I would gladly make an email provider based in a place of the world where you can disappear rather quickly, however you guys would have to allow me to read all of your emails because I would need to monitor them for terrorist activity.
if I'm even suspected of harbouring terrorists then the US government has the political power to come and take me and lock me up in a small little dark jail cell where the next door neighbour's name is Buck, and yes he does like to do what you think he does.
That is why none exist. Those with power are too powerful and too paranoid, those without power are too weak and not paranoid enough.
https://startpage.co...aboutstartpage/ supposedly wanted to start one but its been 12 months and I havent heard anything about it yet, as a matter of fact they've gone all hush-hush about it, read into that what you will..
Ontop of that most encryption is cracked anyway, so even if you encrypted it with a government mandated encryption (another anti-thesis going on there) it would be completely insecure.
If you want more privacy in your life, then the answer is simple, stop using the internet and credit cards, go the lotek route and buy things at brick and mortar stores and pay for everything in cash and never use a computer that stores any information whatsoever about you, yes there are live distros dedicated to privacy out there.
Then start getting into bitcoin.
