WARNING: Strychnine is a highly toxic compund and should be treated with caution! Poisoning results in extremely painful muscular convulsions and often leads to death. This thread is a discussion of the nootropic potential of strychnine, and should in no way be seen as an encouragement to experiment with said substance.

Strychnine is a deadly poison.

you people mentioned "glycine" several times. There is a product called dimethylglycine (or DMG) sold as supplements (Source Naturals, etc.). Curious what it does? I read of reviews of it giving people energy, etc. This may be off topic but interesting thread. I wouldn't hesitate to try this out only if under scientist supervision since I don't own any sterile extraction process tools. LOL.

I'm digging up this thread again because something I encountered today reminded me of this. I am highly interested in trying this out.

Strychnine is a poison, sure, but any more so than Alprazolam/Xanax? The dosages are very similar yet Xanax is one of the cheapest and most widely prescribed substances on the planet. If you take 30mg of Xanax you could face just as much death as if you take 30mg of Strychnine. I'm sure pure Xanax powder is dangerous to handle as well. I am planning to be procuring some of these Nux seeds soon and trying a very attentive and surgical method of preparing the dosage.

I am always searching for good nootropics, even if it means doing something that is a little risky. Strychnine seems like it could have some real potential if used correctly. I hope to find the academic/nootropic uses of it to induce LTP through various forms of mental training, and not just for recreational purposes.

Good Luck!

Just make sure to have a backup plan incase things go south.

I've dabbled with worse :P. I have a pretty good idea of how to handle it safely.

In the worst case, my passion for finding the ultimate nootropic far exceeds my far of death. In any case, I believe the even the best nootropic is only a very small piece of the puzzle of attaining ultimate cognition.... in the end, these are just chemicals that modulate our brains, and the brains participation/activity can significantly effect the overall experience a user has.

Where can you buy safe dosages of strychnine?

I have found websites selling nux vomica seeds containing strychnine, does anyone know how much strychnine one seed contains in average?

I'm interested by the potential it can give but I don't want to die from extreme deadly convulsions.

I do not know of any places that sell nux vomica seeds, try googling around.

The most potent nux vomica known contains 2.65% strychnine by dry weight.

The average nux vomica contains 1.23% strychnine by dry weight.

Safe adult strychnine doses are 3 mg and below. Anything above 3 mg and you risk unpleasant side effects. It has a very deep dosage curve. 2 mg is more than twice the power of 1 mg. You should consider 3 mg the limit and don't ever try taking more

Those suggestions seem somewhat extreme. As in, based on what I read most people shouldn't go over 1mg.

3mg seems to be the limit before unpleaseant side effects. But everybody reacts differently.

Starting with 500 micrograms and ramping up to 3mg would be preferable.

Apparently the weight of a seed is between 1.4-2.4g (1,6 in average), if I'm right this means that an average seed contains 20mg of strychnine?!

Basically a single seed is enough to kill you? I probably got something wrong, because if that's the case then I'm not touching these with a bargepole.

It's a pity they don't sell strychnine tablets. All I could find is a product called tentrex containing 16mg of nux vomica extract (200-400mcg strychnine).

Maybe I'll try that, it's dirt cheap and doesn't contain deadly amounts of strychnine.

Yes, a single seed should be enough to kill you. However if you extract the strychnine safely and properly, this should not be a problem.Refer to the the method mentioned in the Original Post. Think of it this way, one seed contains 40 doses of 500 mcg.

Cybe, you have a responsibility to post some results if you actually did the experiment. Any warnings for others?

Any more info on this? I actually got very interested in securinine and after research on chinese/russian websites with google translate, it turned out, that it's moa is about the same as strychnine, altough it's 8-10x less potent.

So I'm shipping myself some nux vomica seeds to try it myself.

Looking to try 10mg of seed powder and go up from there. Could anyone guide me on how to properly measure such an amount?

I had an electronic scale and it was shit in 0-500mg range, don't want to buy $300 scale for this project.

Looking into volumetric dosing, current plan:

1. weigh 1g of a seed, powder it.

2. mix it 100ml with 80% vodka

3. wait X amount of time

4. measure with a syringe 1ml, which should be equal to 10mg of seed powder

Is this thought process correct? How long to wait in #3? One guy on reddit told to wait about a week on step #3. Any way I could reduce that duration? Not a chemist, so I would need a sort of idiot proof guide.

I chickened out back then, and disposed of my experiment without ever sampling it.

If anyone decides to do it, please be very careful:

1. Do not powder the dry seed. It's very very hard, so you risk ruining your blender or other tool + dry seed powder can get airborne, and inhaling it could be deadly.

2. Avoid working with a deadly dose when possible.

3. Do volumetric dosing

4. Have one or more of the (potential) "antidotes" listed in the OP at hand.

The safest method is probably the one I mentioned in the OP:

"If you’re planning to make an extract, you can simply soak the seeds in vinegar or water for 3 days in the refrigerator. You need just enough to cover them. Check on them every day to be sure they are covered with liquid. That will soften them up. You pour off the liquid but keep it (some actives go into the liquid) and evaporate it for use in for your final extract.

You take the soften seeds and slice them up into tiny pieces, and then grind them while wet using a mortar and pestle. You may need to add some lactose or calcium carbonate as a grinding aid. Lactose works really well and is recommended as a grinding aid. Use 1 gram of lactose for every 1 gram of seed. Grinding them wet is the safest way to grind them. Grinding dry seeds can be very dangerous, because it can cause nux vomica dust to go into the air. PEOPLE HAVE DIED FROM OVERDOSES BY BREATHING IN NUX VOMICA DUST. So it’s always best to grind them wet. That way it’s not possible to generate a cloud of nux vomica dust.

After grinding, you can dry the ground seeds for use in capsules or extract them easily with vinegar and make a tincture out of them.

One 2 gram seed makes about 49 doses of 500 micrograms each, so one seed goes a long way."

If I remember correctly my plan was to soften the seed in vinegar, cut it into 4 roughly equal sized pieces and only work with 1 piece at a time.

That would leave me with about 6125 micrograms = 6.125 milligrams of strychnine. Significantly lower than the 30 mg LD50 in humans, and about twice the 3mg some consider "safe".

By working with this dosage I would be relatively safe, even if I spilled it or made any type of mistake.

Keeping it as a vinegar tincture rather than a powder would also be safer, as there is no risk of inhalation.

Someone on nux vomica tapatalk thread claimed to be taking 500mg of nux vomica powder because the lower amount wasn't effective of something like that...

On that tapatalk thread they also discussed that some vendors of nux vomica seeds sell processed seeds with strychnine removed, so it's important to check that before buying.

In this book it's written:

Pharmacological action- Dried seeds are nervine, stomachic, tonic, aphrodisiac, a spinal stimulant; also respiratory and cardiac stimulant. In excessive doses, it is a virulent poison producing tetanic convulsions. 1 311 Medicinal properties and uses- Powdered nux vomica seeds are used in the treatment of dyspepsia and diseases of the nervous system. It is used as a remedy in chronic dysentery, atonic diarrhea, paralytic and neuralgic affections, mental emotion, epilepsy, chronic constipation from atony of bowels, prolapsus of the rectum, gout, chronic rheumatism, and hydrophobia. In neuralgia of the face and gastralgia, in sexual impotence, spasmodic diseases as nausea of pregnancy, and epilepsy, its effects are well marked. Nux vomica is also useful in functional paralysis due to anemia of the cord, general exhaustion, spermatorrhea, and incontinence of urine in children. Leaves of nux vomica are applied as poultice to sloughing wounds or ulcers infested with maggots. Root bark ground into a fine paste with lime juice and made into pills is effectual in cholera. Seeds with some aromatics are prescribed in colic. Wood is used for dysentery, fevers, and dyspepsia. 5° Doses - Seed powder - 0.5 to 3 gr; extract - 0.5 to 1 gr; tincture - 0.5 to 1 ml.

https://libgen.is/bo...954B0812C47C603

I have no idea how they calculated 0.5 - 3g as a dosage :D from my calculations it was that 2g of powder was a deadly dosage.

I'm looking to start with 10mg of seed powder and go up from there.

For weighing small amounts cheaply I recommend the gemini milligram scale. I have used one for years and it seems accurate to about 1 or 2 mg. To measure out 10mg if you want more precision I would measure about 40mg and divide into fourths
