is it possible to improve cognition while taking antidepressants. like i know you can improve your cognition through brain training using luminosity and other brain game exercises. there is evidence brain training can increase certain neuronal firing rates in areas of the brain, thus increasing dopamine and other neurotransmitters. im wondering do the effects of these brain training games and other methods to improve cognition still work while on antidepressants.

my question is not asking if antidepressants improve cognition but rather can you still furhter improve your cognition while on antidepressants.

Yes, however antidepressant have zero relation to any impairment of your cognition. Luminosity is not going to be needed. A challenging book/course/articles (NOT NEWYORKTIMES OR PEOPLE MAG!! haha :) ) and exercise can provide cognitive enhancement defined as a increase in neurotrophins like nerve growth fact prevents hippocampus atrophy with age increasing grey matter and white matter in localized parts of the brain and increasing dopamine and norepinephrine.

i thought it would be difficult to improve you cognition through brain training while on antidepressants, as some antidepressants such as SSRIS decrease dopamine levels. therefore how would it be possible to increase firing rates of dopamine through brain training exercises while on ssris.

But then again antidepressants increase brain plasticity. Therefore that would enhance your ability to adapt to cognitive processes such as enhancing processing speed, recalling information and increasing working memory. So im still not sure they might still make brain training exercises more efficient. but since antidepressants reduces certain neurotransmitters, im unsure
