Two grams per day for six months so far, just out of curiosity. No noticeable effect on any physical or mental aspect.
Do you mind me asking how old you are?

Hi,
Are there any conflicts or synergy between Nicotinamide Riboside and Resveratrol? I am currently taking 250mg of Nicotinamide Riboside along with 500 mg of Resveratrol together in the morning. I am starting to wonder whether I should move my Resveratrol dose to the evening. Should these two be taken together or separately? Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'm 28 by the way and I definitely notice Nictonamide Riboside. The contradiction; I notice more effects from Nicotinic Acid (as well as from Ginkgo Biloba, Valerian Root, Resveratrol, Red Reishi and Glucosamine). I will continue Nicotinamide Riboside and see if it changes.

mild flushing and thats it no wonder more people arent discussing this supplement. just one good experience report so far....
Niacin has fantastic uses for anxiety and depression and is well known for it in actual psychology and psychiatry circles.... not places like Longecity where most people are not interested or terribly knowledgable in those areas.
Just look at how mystified others were about a form of niacin making someone foggy and tired so suddenly after a short time of wonderful euphoria. But it's not remotely uncommon, it's actually to be expected in the average-methylated person who isn't cosupplementing with enough methyl Bs, nd the fix is very simple. Cycle your niacin like you're supposed to unless you have some actual medical issue where you need to take it daily.
The exchange of knowledge on supplements here tends to be rather narrow as to purpose and use... which is very common among all supplement forums. Bodybuilding, autism, ADHD, nootropics, cancer, mental illness ... if you search each kind of forum for a single supplement, each forum will offer you a very different perspective, knowledge base and purpose of use for that ONE supplement.
Go ahead and try it for yourself.
I agree. I've been surprised at how often people with advanced degrees on LongeCity display a very limited understanding of the basic data on dietary supplements.
For instance, the "anti-aging" vitamin formula that was designed by people here (that's gone now) had potencies of nutrients that over 20,000 dose-comparison studies show to be too low to produce optimal anti-aging effects.
Only higher, but safe, potencies produce optimal anti-aging effects.
I would have thought that the brilliant people that populate LongeCity would be more adept at sleuthing the placebo-controlled human studies that provide details on optimal potencies - among other things - of nutrients.
But I've been surprised often and when I've posted something that is contrary to the notions expressed, with citations, I've had people not "like" my posts, so I quit posting so I wouldn't have negatives on my profile.
I assume that I will get negatives because of this post, but what the heck...

Interesting posts, especially about niacin and methylation.
I don't notice the effects of NR, but I take it anyway because the data says that it will produce mitochondrial "anti-aging" effects.
But then I've been taking 3,000 mg of niacin with my morning coffee for maybe 40+ years.
I also take 1,500 mg of Endur-Amide pharmaceutical grade sustained release niacinamide, which is proven to be harmless, while niacinamide was so effective in reversing the mouse version of Alzheimer's that the Alzheimer's Association created a human trial at UC Irvine that is using Endur-Amide.
My point is that niacin converts to NM through three steps, so with 3,000 mg a day, my mitochondria are likely flooded with NM, so I won't "feel" the effects of NR.
I also take high potencies of all the B's that methylate, too. So, I'm primed for NM production.

Any confirmation that NAD crashing is caused by methylation levels falling from the niacin ?
Has anyone that is experiencing crashing on NAD have MTHFR defects ?
People 'crashing' with any form of niacin have simply become temporarily undermethylated. Niacin is a methyl glutton. One of niacin's greatest uses is for overmethylated people. It just means stop taking it for a while or severly cut back dose, or if you really want to keep the moderate doses of niacin, try adding some methyls to your stack
I think maybe also increasing vit c to double whatever the niacin dose is .... google it I'm too lazy right now

Maybe someone that is experiencing crashing from the NAD can experiment with
methylfolate and methylcobalamin to boost methylation and see if that can help ?

I just started taking Thorne's Resveracel at the recommended dosage two days ago and it has made a huge difference to how energetic I feel. I take it one per day in the morning, after breakfast.
So far so good. This is the first time I've toyed with both Resveratrol and Nicotinomide Riboside. Unsure of how each are supposed to "feel" on their own.
I do have a few mutations with MTHFR that might cause a NR crash as suggested here but I have been careful to supplement with Thorne's Methyl Guard Plus at the same time, with a single cap of that combined with Resveracel.
So far no crash. If you're interested on how I keep up with it I'm happy to do so.
Resveracel at the recommended dosage (two capsules) has:
Two Capsules Contain:
Nicotinamide Riboside Chloride† 300 mg
Quercetin Phytosome (Sophora japonica concentrate (leaf) / Phospholipid complex from Sunflower) 250 mg
Trans-Resveratrol 150 mg
Betaine Anhydrous (Trimethyglycine) 50 mg
Methyl Guard Plus has (in three capsules, so I'm taking a third of this with Resveracel):
Three Capsules Contain:
Riboflavin (as Riboflavin 5'-Phosphate Sodium) 90 mg
Vitamin B6 (as Pyridoxal 5'-Phosphate) 45 mg
Folate (as L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate from L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolic Acid, Glucosamine Salt) 3 mg
Vitamin B12 (as Methylcobalamin) 3 mg
Betaine Anhydrous (Trimethylglycine) 1.8 g

Two grams per day? 2000 mg per day?? That will cost a bomb! You sure you are taking nicotinamide riboside and not niacin?

I have been here for years now and seen many "hot" supplements come and go. Disturbingly, I still see people hoping to "feel" something immediately. If they don't feel something - then MEGADOSE!
Biochemically, most of the potential age-slowing supplements available, do not work in a way to "feel" something. The theoretical method of action of resveratrol, D3, aspirin, C60, metformin, NR, etc, you name it, is to work slowly over many years so that when you reach 70, you are a maybe a couple percent younger (biologically speaking) than your peers who did not use supplements to slow the aging process. If you are mega-dosing to "feel" something, you are wasting money and probably killing yourself faster.
Do everyone a favor, donate to rejuvenation research instead of trying to megadose on various "hot" supplements. We will all thank you in the future.

You do know the post you are both commenting on is 2 years old????

In retrospect, after many years of experience with supplements, a criteria for the safety of a supplement ought to be that you don't feel it work, irrespective of the nature of the feeling. If you feel it, you're probably taking risks either with the supplement, its dose, or with unwise interactions. There are of course exceptions to this guideline, but they should be few and far between.
