Started on a dark/night theme for the site one day, but never finished. I don't think I am going to get around to it, so have at it.

Someone mentioned the blue and white theme was unhealthy, so I started this theme in yellow/black It uses the "Stylish" addon for firefox and chrome. It is almost finished and should work well for browsing the site but still needs some tweaks. Things that need to be done:
  • Fix reply/new topic posting text which is currently black but should be light yellow or white. This is probably the most important thing [as I am realizing as I type this, ha ha]
  • The news bars on the side of the /forum/ page need to have their background color adjusted, should be easy.
  • The home page adapts terribly. I think this might be more trouble than it is worth to fix.
  • Semi-related to the home page, some of the forum category images have a white background. I think this is due them having a white image background instead of transparent, will be a pain to fix.
  • A lot of the changes could probably be replaced by fewer changes to more general settings.
  • Some header text is still in black. Might be able to knock most of it out with one header font color change
  • A few little components still have a white background, and some still have black text.

More Details are on the userstyles page http://userstyles.or...city-dark-theme including links to the color pallets used.

I hope the documentation is good enough, I know it isn't great, and it may be inconsistent or not very elegant since I had never done anything CSS before this. The only meaningful content (inside the classes) are the lines that include "!important" (which is part of the style so that it overrides, not a comment). The rest are just there because I wasn't sure if I was going to change anything else or need them later.

Feel free to ask me about anything, just shoot me a message preferably. It may take a long time to respond though, sorry.

In the event that no one picks up the task, how hard would it be to take the present theme and turn the background a sandstone color? Would that be better for eye health?

Okay, I just updated it to make the text when posting into the same yellow/gold that is used for the rest of the body-text. I don't know if you have to redownload it or if it will update automatically.

It should be more usable now.

In the event that no one picks up the task, how hard would it be to take the present theme and turn the background a sandstone color? Would that be better for eye health?

Using stylish? Probably not too difficult. It doesn't seem difficult as much as it is a pain to go through and change all the little subsections of the same color that seem to be defined independently. If someone is more familiar with CSS, maybe they can write it so that it changes the whole pallet or something so that it translates each color into a new, specified color? I don't know if that is possible.

As far as administration changing it or adding a theme, I don't know what kinds of tools are available in forum things like this, so I have no idea.

The best way to get that kind of change would probably be to use f.lux and/or turn down brightness on your monitor, requiring no change to the site.

As far as eye health goes, I am not sure. The original post that I was going off of said that blue with unhealthy, but I have found conflicting opinions about that, with some people saying that blue (like on slashdot) was actually good for eyes. In fact, there were a lot of conflicting opinions about the topic in general.

However, I found that most people agreed that light text on a dark background was the best for eyes. So, changing the white to sandstone seems like it may logically help a bit since the background is becoming darker, but I don't know if it would be significant since it still isn't a reversal to light text on a darker background.

Works good. It doesn't get the grey bits in the reply dialog box, but I doubt anything would fix that bit of scripting.

Thank you for saving my eyes.

A bit of feedback would be that the pictures are still on a white background. Personally, my avatar is a transparent png, and thus will look perfect on either a black or white background. But here it still appears to be on a white background.

Hi, thanks for making this! I downloaded the theme and am testing it out. My initial reaction is that I really like it! I will continue to let you know how it's working out. :)

Great!
If you can also fix the lag on the page it would be great. Some of the extra options during posting (such as autosave and edit feautures) really slow things down the way they are implements . Perhaps a more basic forum option would increase speed?

Sorry, but I often access this site from my work computer and it loads slow at times.

Thanks for keeping up the good work updating it.
