wondering what has stronger norepinephrine properties. the highest dosage of effexor or pristiq 50mg (prescribed dose).

i know that the ratio for prisitq NE : SE = 1:10 and Effexor is 1:30 (read this somewhere).

this would mean pristiq has stronger norepinephrine properties but since effexors norepinephrine increases with dose and there is no titration above 50mg with pristiq. what would have stronge norepinephrine properties. high dose Effexor or 50mg pristiq.



and which would you notice the feelings of norepinephrine more for.

If your figures are correct Desvenlafaxine. However don't forget Venlafaxine is turned into desvenlafaxine in the body.

the 1:30 ratio is counting the fact that Venlafaxine is turned into desvenlafaxine. Also im pretty sure those figures are correct, besides a small difference in the ratio of pristiq im unsure of as some sites say pristiq is 1:9 and others 1:10 NE:SE.

also how did you work that out. i was thinking like a really high dose of Effexor (500 - 600mg) would be stronger.

I hope your just being hypothetical about 500 - 600 mg of Effexor. The side-effects of that much serotonin flooding your brain would be horrendous, if not possibly lethal.

kind of hypohetical. but 500 to 600mg is actually the max dosage for fast metabolisers but people vary rarely take that dosage usually the max is 375mg. dont believe me go to:

That is a slight misnomer. While in the USA I believe 375mg is the maximum approved dose its rarely used due to risk of hypertension and quite unplesant side effects. Doses above this have been used experimentally in a few case studies, in very treatment resistant cases. Typically its only tried if they have been shown to be slow metabolisers. However there is no evidence its likely to work any better than doses at 225 and below. Augmentation, switches or simply giving it more time is typically the best move.

so Tom your saying that with effexor once you get to 225mg anything higher has no extra benefits and only causes more side effects similarly titrating up from 50mg with pristiq.

Desvenlafaxine hasn't been studied as well and it wouldn't surprise me if slightly higher doses, may be effective. With Venlafaxine there was some non-significant improvement at doses as high as 375 but a risk/benifit ratio suggest in general the dose isn't worth it. Past 375 its no more effective at higher doses (unless its not being metabolized, in which case another medication is just a good an option).
