Hello!

I was wondering how long does Mg stay in the body, and what the duration of action of Mg threonate would be?

I've been taking 250 -300 mg of Mg threonate at night to help me sleep, and doses varying from 50- 500 mg intermittently in the morning depending on how anxious i am (Anxiety provoked by stimulants that i'm prescribed).

Depending on feedback here, i was hoping to maybe increase my night time dose, in case that would help decrease my day time doses.

Anyone has any clue of t1/2 or duration of action of magnesium supplements? I couldnt find anything to the best of my goolging abilities.

Hope someone has some input!

Thanks

I have no technical knowledge, but only my anecdotal experience. I often take a magnesium taurate two or three hours before bedtime, and although I would not say that it helps me sleep directly, it makes me feel rested. But if I took two then, I found my sleep more interrupted. For a while I was also taking 3 magnesium citrates between about 5pm and mid evening. I found all that had too much of an effect on my bowels the next day. I do not know if that means their effect lasted until the next day or that they had already done their osmotic work by then. From then on I took took 2 magnesium citrates at breakfast and a late evening magnesium taurate, and I find this solution appropriately relaxing for both bowels and brain.

Thanks for the reply.

It would be great if other Mg users could give some input on how they dose for anxiety?

if its PRN basis or daily night or both?

Ive been looking for the half life of it for quite some time, and it boggles my mind that I cant find this information on such a common supplement. Gaaaah.. Taking a random guess I would say it seems effective for ~8hrs

it's about a day. This is from Cecils textbook of Medicine, a bible, or one of the bibles of medicine. Doesn't specify what form of Mg.
