Based on the recent revelation that TA-65 is cycloastragenol, and based on Greenpower's latest lab reports, I'm thinking of starting to take this compound. But it's so expensive.

In browsing around, I found on one of Anthony Loera's sites a lab report indicating that a product known as Stem Cell 100 contains 13mg of cycloastragenol per capsule. This product contains other compounds too, and sells for $60 per bottle, of 60 capsules, or $1 per capsule, or $0.077 per mg.

http://www.cycloastr...82013-Cyclo.pdf

Terraternal, by comparison, is $160 for 60 capsules of 10mg each, or $0.27 per mg.

Crackaging is selling 60 capsules of 25mg each for $279.99 on Amazon.com, or $0.187 per mg.

If this lab report is true, and if the other compounds in Stem Cell 100 are not harmful, it would clearly be the best value of these 3.

I'd like to get

1) Opinions on Stem Cell 100

2) Other sources of cycloastragenol which are reliable and less expensive than the above.

I don't know if Anthony still reads the telomere threads, but I would be very curious to why the lab report from Intertek seem to be missing test values for other compounds of interest, such as Iron, Lead and Mercury. Intertek tests for these substances if you ask them, and I would imagine quite many people want to make sure recommended threshold values are not exceeded.

Also sold by Revgenetics: Cycloastragenol DR - Stomach Acid Protected Cycloastragenol, http://www.revgeneti...astragenol.aspx

Stomach Acid Protected Cycloastragenol is now available. The first product with special capsules that are designed to protect the cycloastragenol from stomach acid. They avoid the possibility of stomach acid damaging the cycloastragenol by protecting it using special capsules designed to dissolve in the small intestine.

I've no idea if it works, but the concept is interesting.

What's odd is that I can't find the quantity of cycloastragenol in these capsules. It doesn't seem to be mentioned on the site.

My problem with the Stem Cell 100 product is that the representation of cycloastragenol content does not come from the manufacturer and its not clear if Anthony is going to test every batch he sells or whether batches from other sources have the same content as his.

CrackAging mixes in chitosan which very likely leads to the excretion of a fat soluble nutrient like cycloastragenol.  Chitosan was cited as enhancing the absorption of AS4, not cycloastragenol.  See:

http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/16715776

HTA98 also has chitosan mixed in and I think Anthony tested that against ta65 for telomere lengthening and it didn't do so well.

If you read the label on the bottle, it says 5mg. On the other hand "Cycloastragenol DR" seem to have disappeared from Revgenetics site and when you click on on it on Vitaspins site you get the message  "The requested page could not be found.". I've included a picture of the bottle as found on Anthonys Google+.

I agree. Because you never know the origin of the source materials, it should always be tested for the contents of the active ingridients you want, as well as the contents of stuff you probably don't want.

Stem cell 100 is gone again from Revgenetics page and instead searching for it brings you to the TA65.

The market is rather confusing re cycloastragenol.

I see Stem Cell 100 available from other vendors though no cyclo amount listed.

I just ordered some. I'm hoping it's good; I guess we'll find out.

Anybody else? Can we not mention brand names on the forum?

Has anyone kept a list of this stuff?  So far I see ~4 credible sources other than "real" TA-65:

  1. Terraternal http://www.terratern...ol/598/148.aspx
  2. Swanson http://www.swansonvi...ula-90-veg-caps (also includes astragaloside)
  3. Crackaging http://crackaging.co...oastragenol.php
  4. CAW http://www.counterag...om/product.html

Which of these should we be buying? Which are credible? I read about potentially bogus Intertek assays on one of these.

There are some other more random brands such as "Luxivi," & "Nature's Bliss."  Nature's Bliss specifically advertises that it's USA-based.  Even more unknown brands follow, and I'm not listing those.  Then there's another one that's not labelled for ingredients (and therefore not at all guaranteed) called "Stem Cell 100."  What's the story with that?  See thread http://www.longecity...-stem-cell-100/

There also appear to be cheaper sources for TA-65.  I see the 250 unit (8mg) 90 capsule bottle for $400 sometimes and the 100 unit (4mg) 30 capsule bottle for $90—which is not so bad.

I have to admit, I'm biased against web sites with grammatical mistakes, and the Chinese web sites have some of those.  Am I missing any?

Wouldn't buying bulk cycloastragenol powder from somewhere like bad monkey botanicals or from that Chinese company that sells it in bulk be cheaper? BMB has 98% for $100 per gram. I'm guessing the Chinese company probably has it cheaper than that and that they are possibly where everyone is buying it from that is making these various products but you probably have to buy larger quantities. Here's the one I'm talking about http://herbnutrition...cycloastragenol

I never got anything from either of those companies, but I figure that's probably the cheapest way to go. But I also don't have any idea on bioavailability enhancers or enteric coating on the various premade products or if those are necessary.

If enteric is needed maybe put the powder in these http://www.amazon.co...nteric capsules

But if it is not needing enteric protection like some have and rather bioavailability enhancement because it is fat soluble like it says on the crack aging website, you can always just chew it with a lecithin softgel and some good cheese like I do with fat soluble things like curcumin or CoQ10. Some easy to digest fat, an emulsifier like lecithin, and chewing with saliva make a better lipid delivery system than any of those fancy bioavailability enhancers, in my estimation at least.

I'm curious if cycloastragenol and AS4 can be made bioavailable in astragalus root by suspending it's powder in oil?

Is cycloastragenol destroyed in gut? Why not try using whole astragalus root? Besides astragalosides and cycloastragenol there is more nutrients, 250g of root costs 13Us.

Tried a cycloastragenol from Australia labeled "RSA Labs" a few months back that seemed to be pretty good.  28 caps at 25mg each for under $100us.  Unfortunately they seem to be "out of stock" on their entire line now.

Looking for another source and came across "Longevity Science Research Club" on ebay that lists a gram powder 'for research purposes' for around $130us.  Seem to be UK based but ebay says they ship to the US out of Ohio.  Anyone ever heard of them?  They mention an affiliation with Longecity but I cannot find any reference to them here and suspect that at most some cross-membership.
