There are non-prescription types?
What does it do besides the stuff it's usually used for, or what is the purpose of it as a supplement then?

Most people use it for neuroprotective properties.. it also reduces anxiety and is a mood stabilizer.. use the search function on this forum, tons of threads dedicated to this topic.. good luck

Google is your friend. I take that exact one from Swanson. Most people on this site may take it for neuroprotection, but the vast majority of people take it for anxiety, depression.

Lithium Orotate is an unstudied lithium salt. There is precious little evidence that it does anything.

Dr. Hans Nieper wrote how it protects against glutamate toxicity. Dr. Johnathan Wright has plenty of good things to say about it.

Yep it sure is. There is no $$$$$ to be made by big pharma. You think they want joe blow to pay 5 cents a pill for lithium orotate when they have a drug with 25 side effects for $5 a pill?

Anyone tried "lithium orotate" for mood stabilization?
The side effects of the other lithium products concern me and why I avoided orotate, but that is a choice you have to make.

You don't have to take orotate. I use a low dose aspartate. (5mg)

Niner--Why do you choose the aspartate form over orotate?

Niner--Why do you choose the aspartate form over orotate?
I didn't seem to feel quite right using 5mg of the orotate. I had a sense that I was angrier, which is pretty counter-intuitive, considering how it effects most people. I started splitting the 5gm orotate tabs into quarters and that was fine, but I was looking for a way to avoid the hassle of splitting. I may not have giver the 5 mg orotate much of a chance- it was a long time ago. I'm not having any problems with the aspartate.

Thanks for the response, Niner.
I have been taking 5mg or the orotate form (Drs. Best--my understanding is they have discontinued production, so the next bottle will have to come from another vendor) for perhaps a year. I take it at bedtime and it seems to relax me and aid sleep.

I also was orginally taking lithium orotate. Its noticable effects wore off after 4-6 weeks, but I decided to keep taking it because I think it's still doing some good. When that bottle ran out, I ordered lithium aspartate just for the heck of it, or to try a different form in other words. I haven't noticed any difference between the two. I typically take 5mg one or twice daily.

Relentless Improvement, a current Longecity forum sponsor, has introduced a 5 mg lithium product, which is reasonably priced (200 caps for 14 bucks).
They are using the orotate salt.
RI do "finished product testing", i.e., you know it contains what is on the label.
