Hello there,
33yr old male here seeking advice.
For a few years now i have been experiencing some cognitive difficultues. Poor concentration, poor short term memory. I have no history of drug abuse however i do have a history of binge drinking at the weekends. Whilst drinking i would also binge smoke, i seemed to get a synergistic high of the both of these substances.
I suspect that it might be the drinking causing these problems, and (forgive me for using the wrong terms) it feels like i burnt something out up there.
Other factors at play that might have contributed to this is an over reliance on caffiene. Whilst not officially diagnosed (difficult here in the UK) i have many of the inattentive add symptoms. I've always had a sluggish mode about me and caffiene was an attempt to get me going. I know it's a contentious subject but i also suspect some kind of adrenal fatigue.
Finally, my diet has on the whole been poor. Sugar has played too much of a role.
So i need some kind of plan or strategy to help me if possible to get things working again.
What would such a strategy look like?
1. What does a brain healthy diet look like. Everything iv'e read suggests a lot more veggies, particularly dark leafy types. Im going to eliminate any polyunsaturated and trans fats.
Sugar needs to go i'm assuming.
2. a) What non nootropic supplements are recommended? How much fish oil is optimum etc
b) What nootropics will assist in brain repair. Im thinking the whole BDNF thing is important here.
3. I've read a lot about exercise being important for BDNF. What sort of exercise will optimise this? Im thinking aerobic exercise or anything that gets the heart beating will have a greater effect than say weights etc?
4. Is it possible to repair a damaged brain?
5. What "brain training" is effective.
ANY advice would be appreciated. Or any links to threads/articles/resources.
Many Thanks
