Slightly bad news for the guys. But there's a study which shows Red Ginseng has the potential to inhibit 5a-reductase (in other words, blocking production of DHT).

http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/21538628

However, upon closer inspection of the study, it seems this effect is only really prominent in the Red Ginseng variety (more specifically in the Rhizome rather than the Root).

The order of potency is like this:

Red ginseng (Rhizome) > Red Ginseng (Root) >> Cultivated Panax Ginseng (Rhizome) >> Cultivated Panax ginseng (Root) [weakest]

I would assume that the ''Cultivated Panax Ginseng Root'' is the common type that is sold by Health Food companies?

Actually and at a certain age controlling DHT might be a good thing for the prostate.
