I'm 27 and I've been taking ~5.36mg of C60 consistently every week (or week and a half) since July 2014. Most of the effects that I've gotten have been extremely subtle. However, I have begun to notice that I'm not losing muscle mass anywhere near the rate that I would normally lose it, given that I haven't lifted weights since I've been on C60 (due to my hectic schedule). Also, can't build muscle at the same rate that I would normally be able to build it. Of course I've highlighted my initial reaction from C60 here. I would like to add that I sporadically take Vitamin Shoppe's Horny Goat Weed (Also contains: Maca, Mucuna Pruriens and Polypodium Vulgare) and it seems to make the burn from a workout even less likely (a possible synergy?).

Now that I haven't taken C60 since early December 2014, I'm starting to notice that my water consumption pattern has chanced (increased since being off).

My main question is this:

Would there be any reason to believe that C60 is causing me to be able to retain muscle mass longer without working out or might this be an effect of my sporadic horny goat weed use increasing testosterone levels?

Less important question:

Has one noticed a change in consumption of liquids (or other) while on C60?

Thanks

I lost quite a bit of muscle mass due to RA, since I have been on C60 I have since started to regain mass. I went from 170 down to 144 now I am about 155.

Could be the C60 or it could be that I am starting to be more active.

smccomas01, if you are getting that effect from C60 then that is certainly a much larger effect then what I may or may not have gotten. How long did it take you to gain 11lbs and does more active mean that you are lifting weighs for increased muscle size?

Everyone else:

I have never known a supplement to allow me to keep my muscle mass. As I can typically build and then lose muscle mass really easily. Is my muscle mass retention an isolated incident among C60 users?

I would really appreciate input on this.

I was thinking that my muscle mass had remained higher than usual, after not doing any resistance training for a while. That thought was the day before your post.

Anecdote, and not sure if it's the C60's causing the effect (or if there's really an effect at all!).

My situation is unique I lost a lot of muscle mass due to the RA, When it came on it hit quick after a day of riding my motorcycle my left foot was sore in the AM, it got progressively worse the following day I could barely walk. It was bad I watched my arms and legs shrink over a matter of weeks. I had a street glide that in the past I had to pick it up off its side it is about 800 pounds. 2 months later I need two hands to pour coffee out of a coffee pot even then they were shaky.

So the loss of muscle mass we are talking about isn't the same as if you stop working out it is more like someone who was bed ridden for an extended period of time that is the type of loss. It has only been since I started taking the C60 that I have noticed visibly and by feel it coming back. I am not as strong as I was prior to getting sick however I am stronger than I was in august. Example in august I could not hold a full gallon of milk and pour with 1 hand, I can do that now still effort and a little shaky but I can do it.

Does that make since?

Yes: You pour little milkshakes, by the gallon, single handedly since taking 60oo!
Now THAT's an unusual effect!

:-D

On a more serious note, resveratrol came to mind as something that reduces muscle atrophy.
Perhaps its MOA gives some clues as to how C60oo could be having this effect?

Resveratrol prevents TNF-α-induced muscle atrophy via regulation of Akt/mTOR/FoxO1 signaling in C2C12 myotubes.
http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/24534773

Resveratrol prevents dexamethasone-induced expression of the muscle atrophy-related ubiquitin ligases atrogin-1 and MuRF1 in cultured myotubes through a SIRT1-dependent mechanism.
http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/22166204

This seems to point to C60oo increasing NAD+ and hence SIRT levels etc?
As there was actual reversal; perhaps C60oo also increases testosterone levels in a similar way plus the blocking of ROS like onion probably does?

Ha ha yeah

What I believe was going on is called Rheumatoid Cachexia it happens in about 1 in 4 or 1 and 5 RA patients. Some else describe it like this.

Early in my RA treatment, I worried out loud to the rheumatologist about muscle wasting from being unable to do very much. The RA doc said, “This is not a concern.” I still worried because at the time, I couldn’t wash my own hair.

Almost overnight, I went from lifting 50 pound bags of concrete mix or fertilizer to being unable to hold onto a glass of water.

I think I mentioned that after starting Enbrel some of my symptoms were brought under control yet I still had the issues with muscle atrophy persisted this is not unusual.

Rheumatoid cachexia, loss of muscle mass and strength and concomitant increase in fat mass, is very common in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Despite great advances in the treatment of RA, it appears that rheumatoid cachexia persists even after joint inflammation improves.

In the second link above they theorize what they believe are the causes however it is not known for sure. The only treatment is do more... I was able to do more when I started taking Enbrel however the gains in muscle strength and tone were after the C60oo
