Dear friends,

We would like to organize donation of books on Life Extension to university libraries in different countries, especially where almost no such literature exists.

This project is supported by a small grant from Longecity.

For the initial package there were selected:

Aubrey de Grey. Ending Aging http://www.amazon.co...e/dp/0312367074

Ilia Stambler. A History of Life-Extensionism http://www.amazon.co...y/dp/1500818577  Also freely available on line athttp://www.longevityhistory.com/

What other books do you think should be included in the package? Would you donate books on life extension?

Please help arrange the transfer of books to your local university library: get the agreement of the library or university faculty, and find out the name and address to send the books.

Beside the direct effects of getting the books on life extension into university catalogues and reading lists, and thus strengthening the academic status of life extension research, there are additional benefits. We can use this opportunity to build up the network of longevity activists engaged in the project, we can build up the interest among students, especially in biomedicine-related topics, and we can find teachers and faculty members who may be sympathetic to the cause of life extension to build collaborations for the future.

This can also be an opportunity to organize book club events and discussions, with or without the book transfer, for those or other books on life-extension. From regular meetings of such discussion groups, there may emerge longevity activist cells.

This can also be an opportunity to increase education and writing on life-extension, for example by writing book reviews, on these and other books on life-extension. There may be small compensations for book reviews to be published at Longecity (and disseminated elsewhere).

If you would like to help and participate in the Book Outreach Project, please contact me. Here in PM, by email: ilia.stambler@gmail.com or facebook https://www.facebook.com/ilia.stambler

Thanks!

Ilia Stambler

The book club activities can be combined and reinforced with other longevity advocacy activities, e.g.

I am to report, that so far, within this drive, from mid-December 2014 until now, mid-March, 2015, about 28 books on “The History of Life Extensionism” were distributed to University libraries around the world.

Before the Longecity project period, 16 books were distributed: 10 books were sent to be distributed among participants of the Latin American Futurism Summit in the Dominican Republic, including high standing officials.

2 books went to the Universities in the Netherlands (Leiden and Amsterdam), and 4 more to the universities of Moscow (Russia), Helsinki (Finland), Florida (US), Krakow (Poland)

Since the beginning of the Longecity project, in February, 12 books were distributed to: the University of Cape Town (South Africa), Belgrade (Serbia), Sofia (Bulgaria, for the Life-extension club),  Wisconsin-Madison (US), 2 books to the University of Turku (Finland, one of them for the Finnish Future Society), 2 books to the Larnaca University (Cyprus, one of them to the Larnaca Medical Museum), 2 books to the University of Makerere (Kampala, Uganda), 2 books to the University of Malta (one of them for the Malta Public Library).

In addition, as agreed with the SENS Research Foundation, 20 copies of “Ending Aging” will be sent to various universities, on behalf of SRF, according to a list that will be provided later.

The choice of the universities mainly depended on the initiatives of the activists in the places. Even though the results may not be immediately “tangible”, hopefully these will be good seeds to grow the knowledge of life extension science, especially in the places where little such information is available. Hoping for the greater spread and deepening of this knowledge!
