There's no such thing as "unhealthy hyper" libido

Mine is able to be switched on and off on demand.

In a world where we have monks and nymphomaniacs with a higher percentage of nymphos..I'll take the nympho.

More monks/prudes, they outnumber the nymphos. And my libido is like super unhealthy hyper.

If you're looking for triterpenes from reishi, it's important to note that they only occur in significant amounts in the fruiting body. An alcohol extract is required to fully extract them as many of these compounds are not water soluble.

Products made from mycelium on grain (anything made in North America) will not have significant amounts of triterpenes.

I've tried RedReishi for a couple of months (1/2g a day in powder-form) and never noticed any (nootropic) benefits but since it has good reviews and a wide documented list of benefits for the immune-system I kept taking it until I saw this topic and stopped because of it possible anti-androgenic effect.

Does someone have a video or more info on how to make a water/ethanol extract from nootropics?

Yeah Reishi definitely has anti-androgenic effects; I flew off the handle a couple times whilst on it.

It isn't good for men, except in very small doses..it does seem to have a euphoric effect though if you combine it with Cordyceps, but the decrease in libido is not worth it.

I tried Reishi 60mg for about 3 days.   Last reishi dose I took was 28 hours ago. I noticed some severe hostility but wondered if it was attributed to the low dose Zoloft I started 5 days ago.  I have not been able to sleep much past 2 days. Insomnia been rough but that is likely zoloft. The first time I took Reishi I slept slightly better if anything. I have noticed the more insightful dreams. More fulfilling and friendly dreams where there are people around me.

I been quite prone to lashing out though and quite angry at some people. Yet this morning I had the most amount of focus, comprehension and was able to process information like a normal human being first time in a while.

Other supplements I been taking are modest doses of Glutathione, Korean White Ginseng, Green Tea Organic, and occasional Rhodiola.

How would Reishi effect someone who undergoes HRT btw?  Androgel.

I have bad fungal infection btw on various parts of my body, and have historally reacted with strong die off reactions to oral anti-fungals.  The Reishi could very well be killing harmful substances in my body and thus partly responsible for the cause of anger/hostility. It just feels like empathy flies out the door to strong extent and it makes me feel more aggressive and nasty.  I've had aggressive reactions from Royal Jelly and other anti-fungals.

Just trying to understand this because the cog boost in morning was profound and a level of functioning I usually am not blessed with in my current deep brain fog and CFS state. Underlying infections within me are likely seriously holding me back. But most anti-fungal substances have caused bad die off historically for me.

At this point the profound cognitive benefits from the morning are mostly gone. I feel unusually impaired again. Look forward to trying bit more Reishi tonight and will try to monitor effects. I have had some fungal infection on the side of my face flare up btw, red spots, may not be related to reishi though. I did notice easier breathing few days ago when I went to bed after Reishi dosing (is usually bit stuffy in my room), but when I later woke I had lot of nasal congestion ironically.  And I have noticed some slightly innovative thoughts in bed btw. New insights into what I can do to improve my health going forward.   This factor was bit distinct and makes me want to try Reishi a few more times at least.

Sorry to revive an old post, but...

No it isn't but...hmmm it may be a possibility because it effects inflammation.. does arthritis run in your family, specifically rheumatoid?

I only experience phenomenal effects from reishi. The only problem is the alpha reductase inhibition, it can get pretty annoying. Im about to try out 7,8-dhf and NSI-189 to compare it to reishi. Everything is good to go just waiting to get over a cold. I still plan on running a water extract of reishi with the NSI and DHF, however the water extract docent contain the ngf, bdbf and anti-DHT compounds. Those are only found in an ethanol extract.

Long-term use of Reishi also significantly promotes slow-wave sleep I've read. The deep calming wisdom effect is what usually first hits me. I've ordered 500 grams of extract that is extracted with both ethanol (triterpenoids) and hot water (polysaccharides). I wanna see what this mushroom is truely capable of.

What is the form that you were taking Reishi in? I've read multiple posts here saying that a simple extract doesn't contain as much of nootropic compounds, so I should look for ethanol extract instead, however ethanol extract didn't seem to contain other compounds for immunity. So I am conflicted about what form it's best taken in, and in what dosages when it comes to ethanol extracts.

I am really, really interested in this mushroom (always loved mushrooms in food, it's just that they always costed too much so I rarely eat them), but I have to say that I am also a bit concerned about anti-androgenic effects, as I have already suspected for a long time that I have low levels of testosterone from birth, especially judging by my voice and facial hair. So perhaps taking it could lead to a really unhealthy condition, essentially "womanizing" me even more?

EXTRACTS:

I actually just found a water/ethanol extract (doesn't say the ratio, but I will inquire) of the fruit body, 1.5g with 40% of polysaccharides. Does this make sense, and what would be the optimal dosage for this?

My Reishi extract is >30 % polysaccharides, >3 % triterpenes, >30 % betaglucans. I've taken it up to 4 heaping teaspoons a day and I'd say it perhaps lowers sex drive a bit so that you'll rather do something else than masturbatory actions. Libido is still there and accessible but more energy is driven towards "higher circuits" and you'll rather take a nice winter walk than watch online porn. No demasculinization or loss of muscle mass - in fact Reishi seems to be bit of an whole body energizer and strengthener.

Woah... Well, I found one with 4% and 6% triterpenes, but only one that lists betaglucans, and it's at around 10%. Polysaccharides most list above 30%.

However I assume that 4 heaping teaspoons is like 5g per day then? Do you know how much you approximately use per month, assuming you take it daily?

If it's anywhere above say 1g, I think the price is way too high for me, unfortunately... I was really excited about it because of the guy in your picture and a lot of experience reports and research on it, so it really is too bad. The libido as you described, I wouldn't mind at all.

Either way, if it's indeed above 1g/day, I will shelve this for when (and if, a big if, especially if I won't find supplements that help me deal with really low neurotransmitter levels) I will be able to afford it. Because 1g/d would set me back around 10eu/month, which is already A LOT of money for me - I pay for food below 50, at the prices I've found it at, and not even with similar levels (or them reported as unknown) of active ingredients.

I also found ethanol extracts, but at this dose I would assume it would be either equally costly or even more so.

My standard dose is one level teaspoon a day which is about 1000 mg. Sometimes I only take half a teaspoon mixed in morning coffee and the effects are there but a bit smoother.

According to examine.com the ethanolic extracts are already active at tiny doses: "The standard dosage for the ethanolic extract is 6mg".

1g is not as high as I expected then. Though Ethanolic extracts that I found, assuming 6mg = 6ml, would end up costing around around 30-40% more than the dual extract for 3 months - at least from what I could find on eBay (and that was the cheapest place I could find shipping to Europe).

One dual extract I've found, which is 50% ethanol extract, 50% water extract (only polysaccharides tested though), if I was to take 1g of it, it would be around 10eu/month, which is manageable for its effects. I suppose it would be a gamble kind of, but after all, it is a dual-extract, so I would assume the 500mg of the 1g I'd take would contain high levels of triterpenes. Perhaps it's worth a try, if it would help me with my neurotransmitter (notably dopamine) problems? Along with a couple or a few other supplements of course.

Just an FYI. While the research has a lot of pure alcohol based extractions, commercial extracts using alcohol are almost always guaranteed to be dual extracts. It depends on the manufacturing flow chart for the extract but it's typically between 30-90% ethanol with water.

Thanks for the tip - I contacted a cheaper seller to ask about this, as I couldn't find any proper information about the active ingredients or the extraction process in his product besides that it's a 1:3 extract. If it pans out and it contains decent amounts of bioactive compounds, I'll go with it. If not, I'll maybe go with the 40% dual extract with other active compounds being unspecified - perhaps that one is worth a try. I am still deciding on the supplement stack that I will go with, as I'm doing more research, and while Reishi seems very promising, its price is really high. I might do better going with Mucuna Pruriens for my problems, along with some other substances. On the other hand, Mucuna Pruriens would have to be cycled every couple of weeks or so, as it seems to build tolerance. But I will probably post another topic about it after I'm done doing my research on various other substances. :-)

I was wondering - what about an extract that is done this way: Reishi is soaked in a mixture of water and ethanol for several weeks? How well would that work?

I have been taking ProFormula reishi for 5 years at 2 gr. per day.  I have not experienced a decrease of my libido at all.  I have tried numerous brands including Host Defense.  ProFormula from Reishi Essence is hot water extracted from 100% fruit body of the fungi.  It's a bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for,

I take a similar dose of Red Reishi to you and I've got no libido problems at all. No bad effect regarding libido, if anything a slight increase. The truth is, Red Reishi contains over 400 polysaccharides and over 300 triterpenes, and is probably beyond the understanding arrived at by "inhibits enzyme X..." sort of reasoning.
