And? The AI singularity has been written about for years. The ironic thing here is that they forget that the first AI will probably be a HUMAN brain simulated on a computer. So its still a human, just not in the traditional way.
Given enough processing power and time it would eventually be able to modify its own source code that represents all the neurons in the brain and convert it or modify it to be more efficient. The human brain would have to be taught how to do stuff like that first though.
Also since you keep posting threads like this, your new nickname is BRAINIAC
That means the brain inter active construct

It might be a human brain. But for all we know it will be easier to build artifical intelligence from first scratch.
The first flying machine was not a huge mechanical eagle. It was something rather different.
Even though we have spent a century looking into aerodynamics we can not build birds yet.

The difference is that we could technically simulate most of the brain now with enough money. You don't need to be able to understand artificial intelligence at a fundamental level in order to simulate a human brain. It would take the equivalent of Einstein in CS to make artificial intelligence from straight C++. Its also being researched and invested in now for the IBM blue brain project.
And continuing off of your analogy, maybe it won't be exactly a human brain but something close. A plane shares many characteristics with a bird, and many designs are based on bird aerodynamics and concepts.

Maybe off topic, but here it is:
However, AI could evolve without consciousness from algorithms only.

The planes used aerodynamics partially derived from the study of birds. And I believe that the same similarities will be had when the first true GAI emerges.
Maybe a brain will come first as in Permutation City where you can upload a human brain into a 1x1m optical photonicsprocessor made from memorydiamonds.
My sincere belief is that a true AI will be made first. There are people working on that right now that we know of. Probably many projects done in silence too.
Nothing can be said for sure right now.
Our knowledge about intelligence is still in it's infancy. Once the algorithms are hammered out as they once were with electromagnetism or aerodynamics it will be a very interesting time.
