Hey all. So I've been researching Iodine the past 6 month. Recently I've been slightly fatigued, unmotivated, dark circles under eyes, thinning hair, and randomly getting warts and skin tags on my arms. (only a few) after looking up all these things, it seemed like I may have thyroid issues and possibly low on Iodine.  Also, I am a 30 year old female who exercises, eats pretty healthy (no dairy or gluten), and drinks about 1.5 liters of water daily.

I started taking JCrows 2% Iodine starting with 2 drops and have worked my way up to 5 drops in a full glass of water every morning. I've been doing this for about 2 weeks and notice my skin is cracking and looking incredibly rough on my face. My circles havent improved and have, in fact, become worse. I feel even more fatigued. Headaches are still there. (no change) and the most frustrating? I never had lines on my neck. I now have 3 DEEP lines, like rings, that are around my neck.My skin looks terrible.

Is this just detoxing or am I having a bad effect? Going to the DR in a week to get a full physical and try to see whats going on! Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello Jules,

I would recommend to have a complete thyroid blood workup, fT3, fT4, TSH reverse T3, selenium TPO-antibodies, TG-antibodies being done by your MD.

Then educate youself by reading the books of Brownstein, and other Iodine doctors. Maybe you have already done so.

The Iodine thing is a matter of controversial debate even among the anti-aging complementary medicine community.

If you have started the Iodine in this dosage range being hyothyroid already (say TSH over 2.5, TPO-anibodies positive, low selenium), this would very well explain your condition.

So it would be very helpful to know your default TSH (= the TSH-value before starting the Lugols 2 %) and other lab results.

It could well be that a combination of thyroid hormone supplementation (if default-TSH was high) and Iodine plus selenium (if shown to be low or low normal) together with other co-factors  / supplements will do the trick.

Good luck with the physical at your MD

It could be an adverse reaction if you have underlying thyroid issues.

If it isn't the case, then it is simply detoxing symptoms, what I suggest is to significantly lower your iodine intake because detoxing takes a long time (several months).

Start with very low doses (200mcg) and progressively take higher doses, you will feel better and it'll keep detoxing.

I too had extreme symptoms when I started taking iodine for the first time.

It is recommended to take iodine with selenium (because it has protective effect on the thyroid and counters autoimmune reactions) and B vitamins.

IIRC you have to take selenium with HD Iodine?.
As its an oxidant; perhaps some vit C and other antioxidants taken with it will help.
