For what it's worth she is very keen on grassroots intervention and wants to drive the costs down once her therapy is tested and shown to work. she seems very sincere and determined to get therapies from bench to bedside instead of languishing in the fda system.As they are new she is working to get those first tests done and wants to work with longevity and lifespan.io to grassroots first pass aging therapies.

Who is Liz?  What does she do?

 

This mind blowing, if a bit hypey, YouTube video will introduce you to Liz Parrish and everything she's hoping to do with BioViva, which is built around everything we might do with an AAV toolkit. Personally, I'd prefer inflated claims that only partially hold up in the end, to FDA approval of nothing at all.

 

Thanks res, that was interesting.  Lots of hype.  It's hard to tell exactly where the boundary is between the real stuff and the wild speculative things.    Is People Unlimited some sort of cult? The audience sounded like they were drunk.  Liz is a Bill Andrews protege, and that talk sounded a little bit like an Isagenix rally...

People unlimited is some kind of cult. Apparently she was not sure about going but Aubrey de Grey went there and Bill Williams and while them seem kooky are apparently friendly and support longevity research. Takes all sorts I guess.

Remember Aubrey de Grey's on her sab and Michael Fossel so her methods are a mix of various approahes.some Hype certainly but she is definitely planning to deliver on things.

I admit I did look into People Unlimited and whilst they are a cult with the usual dubious reputation that follows such groups they do seem very keen on biotech and longevity science and from what I can gather they have considerable money behind them. They have booked up a number of biotech and longevity researchers including Aubrey De Grey and I hear they are helping to organize some kind of Transhuman Festival/event in Arizona and putting in funding for that, On one hand I feel that a Cult could possibly damage the reputation of Longevity research but on the other if they are interested in the science and are contributing financially and helping spread the word about the work going on can we afford to turn down the help? Takes all sorts I guess and it's no different from Christian Transhumanists and those of other religions who embrace science I suppose. 

 

That said being from the UK if a group like this came knocking at the door of the average person around here they would very likely swiftly be chased down the road with a broom LOL

I hope People Unlimited brings something good to the table, (money?) because after checking out their site, I don't see them as a plus in our overall goals.  I agree they look like a cult.

Niner I agree and it is a concern that association could cause harm to progress.

Can someone please confirm if the fundraiser application for BioViva was received or who to ask? They submitted a project proposal for hTERT last month but not heard anything back either way. This is potentially very important as it would effectively double the funding for the project allowing a greater scope.
