I'm always looking into supplements to try to help me with my issues.  one thing i thought of recently was maybe an underactive thyroid has something to do with it(lazy, lack motivation, anxiety prone, depression prone, etc), so yesterday it was l tyrosine that ended up on my receipt.    Took a 500 mg cap , and it didn't do anything. No extra energy, mood lift, libido, brain power.  Figured, eh, another miss, nothing new... but today i woke up 100% refreshed and full of energy after only 4.5 hours sleep.  i don't ever wake up feeling good like that, never.  and after only 4.5 hours? whoa.  Libido was surging, i felt mentally sharp, was in overall rare form.  Unfortunately i gave into my libido and ended up fapping twice which brought me down a bit, but the fact  remains that i woke up feeling right, like i was 18 again(i'm 30 now).   Has l tyrosine helped anyone else out? Then again, a lot of supplements seem to work when you first try them until they stop working 3 days later, but i have never woken up feeling as refreshed as i have today, so it's something to be noted.

I haven't noticed much of anything from L-tyrosine but zinc does something similar to me. I take it at night with a combination of magnesium and vitamin b-6. I can get away with 6,7 hours of sleep whereas before I started supplementing with zinc I'd need 9 or 10 and still be tired. Zinc (or ZMA I should say) has increased my quality of sleep while reducing sleep duration and also increased energy levels and libido. It really is a great mineral that I think a lot of people are deficient in. It is excreted through perspiration so if you're physically active, your zinc levels are likely lower than optimal.

Some points which might help with deducing what happened;

Sleep deprivation increases dopamine synthasis

L tyrosine is one metabolic step away from being dopamine

Caffeine reduces the rate limiting pathway for the conversion of l tyrosine to dopamine

Aminos like L-tyrosine are abundant in meat, are you vegetarian or vegan?

There was another user who found high doses of L tyrosine made him feel like he was on NZT.

Be mindful of yourself, if you start using strong dopamine agonist you might feel amazing but in the eyes of others you might be a complete asshole.

Enjoy it while it lasts. Tyrosine is always great at first, but after about a week of continued usage tolerance rapidly develops. I must tell you though, it was initially the greatest stuff on earth and what got me into amino acids in the first place.

Yes it is a great nootropic for sleep...
Cofactors to consider...
5-HTP, balances out Serotonin baseline levels. Recommended ratio of 10:1 Ten units of L-Tyrosine for every 1 unit of 5-HTP is popular. A Dr. Dan Kalish recommends up to 3000 milligrams of L-Tyrosine with 300 milligrams of 5-HTP daily.
DMAE, this anti aging agent is popular in combination with Tyrosine.
Racetams, a stack with a proportion of 2.5 grams of Tyrosine with 1.6 grams Piracetam is a favorite of Biohackers on Longecity.
