I have held a couple of discussions with Avi Roy of BGRF. He would like to collaborate on an expanded science/life extension-themed "show".
Imminst/LongeCity media efforts have ranged from IIRC and text chats in the beginning, to a live Ustream broadcast, to the current LongeCity Now podcast.
This new effort would be in the style of the previous Ustream broadcast, with video, audio, and audience interaction.
The current podcast is structured Introductory comments (host) -> Interview (host+guest) -> Final comments (host)
The proposed "show" would be Introductory comments (host) -> Top recent news (host + regular commentators) -> Short Interview (host+featured guest) -> Interview follow-up (commentators+featured guest) -> Audience interaction (host+commentators) -> Action item and closing comments (host).
I would be the host. At least one of the regular commentators (appearing in every show) would be Avi Roy. Dr. Stolzing would be another regular commentator. We are thinking about having three regular commentators.
The show would still be sectioned into smaller audio podcasts as well as available in its full-length format.
The proposed technical set-up would be through Google Hangout. Alternate platforms are available, but might introduce some extra cost. Hangouts are free.
In a more advanced form, the show would have advertisements in between the "top news" segment, the interview, and the audience interaction. Advertisements could help off-set any costs involved in the production, raise money for LongeCity and BGRF, and perhaps fund research.
The current podcasts are a nice addition to LongeCity's presence (something besides the forum), however it could be expanded. Having more scientifically inclined "regular commentators" would help in asking challenging questions of the featured guest. Having audio, video, and interaction might broaden the reach of our media effort.
