Hello,

I'm a long time lurker here and was wondering what any of you more knowledgable people would recommend to read as an introduction to understanding much of the conversation in this section. In case it's relevant, I have no post-secondary education as I am a high school student.

I understand this is quite a broad question, but any recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks.

Also, apologies if this is the wrong forum section for such a question, but I glanced through the book club and most of the topics explicitly pertain to longevity, and this seems like the best place to ask those with experience regarding the brain.

There aren't a whole lot of books on modern neuroscience, especially the sort of topics that are discussed here. There are a lot of psychology books that cover older information about the brain, but I haven't actually found any good books which talk about our most recent discoveries in the subject matters which are typically covered in forums like these.

Most of the things I've learned were individual scientific journals, forums, and wikipedia. If you want to learn something it's sometimes best to just research it.

That said if anyone does actually have good neuroscience books to recommend I'd like to check them out too.

To start out, I'd check out these sites, depending on what you're looking for

I wish I'd read Aubrey de Gray's "Ending Aging" when I was in high school. Do read it now. It was written a long time ago; but is still current and relevant because not much has changed with regard to aging rejuvenation since 2008. Study genetics. Become a CRISPR expert. We need MORE WOMEN IN SCIENCE! Read everything you can find by Cynthia Kenyon, Elizabeth Epel, Elizabeth Blackburn, Jennifer Doudna (she's about to win the Nobel for gene editing)...
