So the numerous topical retinoids all seems to act on the retinoid receptors differently. I'm wondering if there is any reason to believe that choosing one that binds to all of them (like tretinoin) is more ideal over and above something like tazoratene that is more selective? Studies seem to show many of these as having basically the same effect so the point could be entirely moot.

Is there anyone in here with a scientific background who could clarify the role retinoid receptors play in ageing? Furthermore, could they please explain if choosing a topical that binds to all of them is theoretically, if not in actuality, superior?

I'm trying to decide whether I should keep using tretinoin or switch to an isotretinoin gel.

Finally, I've read some people say it's good to cycle between different retinoids since this somehow has a better effect as certain receptors are being targetted then left alone.

Good study on all this can be found here: http://www.ncbi.nlm....les/PMC2699641/
