Google has this new script where it allows webmasters to display 'matched content' and mixes it with adverts. 

 

It is currently being trialed on the sidebar and at the bottom of each LC site. 

 

As you can already tell, the pictures it uses are selected from the thread and often not sleek or even relevant to the content.

Still, it may be a way of enhancing navigation for some users and even make some money to support LongeCity initiatives. 

 

Thoughts?

If it's for making some money to support LC, it's OK for me. If it's only for navigation, I don't find it useful, at least for me.

You guys have probably already noticed, but the pictures don't match the topics for longecity.org.

 

e.g. I see a photo of Liz Parish with the caption 'Small warning about Inositol...'

A few weeks in, I find it a tough call myself.

I feel the ads are rather tacky and -with need to grab a pic, any pic- misleading.

While the extra 'linking' can be informative I don't know that they enhance our site more than they sully it. 

On the other hand the boost in advertising revenue has not be negligible.

Leave it, with the proviso that a heading states these are google links to generate advertising revenue.  Honest, and one can choose to ignore or succumb to the click bait.

Thanks for the feedback. The feature is currently switched off again, to analyse the effects.
