Hi all, I'm currently living in China (Chongqing) and am a little concerned about the amount of oil used in the meals here.

 

I don't know if anyone lives/lived in China (or eats chinese food often) but do you know the oil they use to cook most things in? How bad is it for you? I have a feeling it plays havoc with the skin and possibly not great for keeping the waistline down.

 

I'm curious if there's anything I can do to mitigate any potential harm besides eating entirely from home? Any supplementation to counteract it?

 

Any information would be massively helpful,

By Western standards, China has an atrociously bad reputation for basic food safety, let alone any issues with its nutritional health. For this reason, I personally try to avoid eating any food/ingredients sourced from China (or any other developing countries.) Here's a report about so-called "gutter oil" manufactured for cooking in China:

Traditionally in China geese fat was used for frying, which is one of the best way to fry if not the best, all the rest is just greed and better left alone.

Eat at home. Cook with Camellia oil ("The olive oil of China").

Skip rice. Rice or food made from flour might do more harm than oil.
