This is a question about a product available on the Pearson/Shaw website: Hydrogen Power II. It is a drink mix containing a prebiotic blend of long-chain fructooligosaccharides, isomalt, xylitol, and guar gum.

Hydrogen is described as a "selective antioxidant that scavenges the most dangerous radicals—including the highly toxic hydroxyl radical, the strongest of the oxidant species, and the potent oxidant peroxynitrite, aka ONOO– (formed by the reaction of superoxide and nitric oxide)—but unlike most antioxidants it will not disrupt radicals that are important as physiological signaling molecules, such as superoxide and nitric oxide."

According to the product description, the formulation uses "built-in mechanisms to increase the endogenous production of hydrogen gas that is released by colonic bacteria through fermentation of certain carbohydrates that reach the lower digestive tract. Moreover, the hydrogen produced there is able to diffuse with extreme rapidity into tissues and effectively reach the nuclei and mitochondria."

Is this a legitimate alternative to hydrogen water or breathing hydrogen gas?

Hydrogen is a by-product of bacteria "digestion", therefore an healthy gut microbiome will produce hydrogen and probiotics should encourage healthy microbiome development.

That said the amount of endogenous hydrogen produced is unlikely to be comparable to exogenous administration via hydrogen water or breathing, if those sources are not jokes, of course.

The best method for Hydrogen delivery I've found is Megahydrate by Patrick Flanagan. It's a hydride bonded to silica and delivers electrons like crazy to neutralize ROS.
