I've been dealing with neuro. issues for several years, and it seems Lyme/coinfections are the root cause (am also worried about prion disease but that's another topic).

I've had great difficulty with focus, attention, anhedonia, etc. This prevents me from working, especially doing any sort of intellectual or creative work. The only time of day I feel lucid is just before bed when my zopiclone kicks AND I have some cannabis (I have medical access to oils and buds, I ingest/smoke/vape). It is only this specific combination that makes me feel capable of writing or creative thought, though lately I seem to be deteriorating and even this doesn't work like it used to.

Question: What is the best way to replicate the effect of zopiclone/THC, given I am dealing with bad neuro issues and am largely housebound? I can't exercise or do much of anything. I don't want to use benzos because I've heard they can exacerbate neurodegenerative conditions.

probable GABA deficiency, as both compounds are known GABA-uptake inhibitors (technically zopiclone is a non-benzodiazapine allosteric modulator of GABA, so by two different methods of attack, synergy is achieved... uptake inhibition + allosteric modulation).

you can supplement gaba or taurine, certain probiotics, fascoracetam(?), antidepressants(?), ginseng/ginkgo.  they all have some gabaergic effect

So last night something weird happened.

I took my usual zopiclone/melatonin combo around 11PM and felt nothing. This has been happening more and more of late as sleep is becoming unreachable for me. I also took 50mg of pharma GABA a couple hours earlier, maybe 9-10.

Around midnight (Happy NY) I vaped a bit of cannabis as I do most nights. Felt nothing at first, went to bed and tried to sleep, then got racing/paranoid thoughts. Normally the zopiclone  negates any these kinds of side effects, not this time though. After about 30 minutes my legs started twitching, then within an hour my entire body was shaking. I could barely walk or talk. It subsided eventually (no idea what time/how long) and I passed out (maybe not real sleep, but I lost consciousness for a couple hours).

The only thing I've done differently is I started using a rife machine (frequency generator) to target/kill various pathogens. It's total pseudoscience but a lot of Lyme sufferers swear by it. The first time I used it was two days ago, and I didn't notice anything different. Then yesterday I used it again, for a bit longer, and with extra frequencies to target prions. Then boom, zopiclone stopped working and THC caused some sort of GABA syndrome.

Thoughts, esp. re GABA? I'm seeing a neurologist in a couple of weeks, I've already emailed him a long diatribe about my whole history, I'm wondering if I should mention this part as well.

As I said in another thread, sedative effects take 2-3 hrs to set in.  The munchies too, possibly because of activity of THC metabolites.  Until then, it is largely a stimulant drug.

The muscle fascisulations are most pronounced during electrolyte imbalance, typically hypokalemia, with low blood sugar also sometimes playing a role.  In such a depleted state the gaba system is very hyperresponsive, nearly lacking the required ions to maintain membrane potential.  THC actually further suppresses gaba (explains why some have panic attacks and epileptic seizures).  I don't see how the zopiclone could play a role, although it's gaba agonism certainly exceeds thc's antagonism.  Possibly longterm downregulation?? That would make sense. You just don't see spasms or convulsions with pro-gaba drugs, except maybe alongside extreme hypoxia, or obviously during withdrawal.

As for telling the doctor, I would just mention in passing that you are sensitive to gabaergics and muscle spasms.

it's not so much the sedative effects of THC I was missing. It's the fact that THC made me feel calm, lucid, focused, with improved appetite and sexual function--but only when paired with zopiclone. This effect lasted until last night. It literally just ended. I definitely jarred something loose...

It's pretty typical that weed has a pronounced positive effect and then the opposite and it's a not a good sign. Search for your luck elsewhere.
