I know that many gouvernment and non gouvernment organisations try to preserve human knowledge, either on microfilm, paper or other materials, sometimes on a microscopic scale. Many of the information stored in such ways can not be read without a special device, and since our knowledge is still increasing the space to store only the most important parts of it, in a way that the unaided human eye can read it without the use of an optical or electronic device, has the size of a library.
Could we build a sturdy device, capable to survive millenia, which needs no energy source and which could, for example, display the content of one of these microengraved glassplates?
Would something like this work with adjustable lenses to steer natural light inside a steel container and then use a dial system to send the light to a certain spot on the glass plate and make it visible on an outside Panel made out of a transparent but durable material?
Or could we utilise a nuclear pumped laser inside such a container?
