Mucuna is known for it containing L-DOPA, but there's more to it than that. In fact, it can reverse and/or increase endogenous levels of not only dopamine but also serotonin. Mucuna also contains trace amounts of tryptamines. Mucuna is used for parkinson's treatment, as an aphrodisiac and to induce lucid dreaming.

 

Reishi is a medicinal rushoom used as an adaptogen, immuno-regulator and as a spirituality enhancing herb. Reishi has a calming effect through adenosinergic mechanism and inhibition of histamine. Many people report Reishi to induce vivid dreams and as if the plant it teaching them something.

 

So I decided to put these two together: half a teaspoon of Mucuna (extracted to 15% L-DOPA) and a teaspoon of dual-extracted Reishi (30% polysaccharides, 3% triterpenoids, >30% betaglucans) along with some Valerian before going to sleep. Let me tell you, this combination is extraordinary to induce vivid, deep and meaningful dreams you wouldn't imagine. You become more or less lucid in the dream world, but unlike the typical reaction in lucid dreaming the dream does not start to vanish but you can start to adventure there. I tried levitation that I had been thinking of trying. I also went to a club in a dreamworld that resembled my city and felt like I was on party drugs. Flying, sex, anything is possible with practice.

 

BUT! it's not all fun and games, the dreams can have these storylines that relate to your personal life. I've had three dreams involving the closest three people in my life, and the teaching attribute of Reishi revealed my how I had been treating them and why do they behave like they do. One of the dreams was extraordinary, there were these entities guiding me and they showed me how is it to feel and live like and old woman - this I believe is related to how my mother is aging and to show that I need to be there for her when she eventually needs help.

 

My latest dream few nights ago involved nightmarish qualities and when I woke up I didn't feel very rested. Therefore, I don't recommend this as every day thing. Especially since Mucuna is a bit controversial herb because of the L-DOPA content and the fact that long-term usage of it is reported to make people feel a bit ill. But as an occasional thing, the combination is pretty fantastic. Reishi you can take every day and it alone can enhance your dreams. It has also been shown to dramatically increase slow-wave sleep when taken long-term.

 

Anyone willing to try the combination? This is only my anecdote.

what about catuaba and mu gua?  or just cordyceps?

 

might look into reishi for histamine/eczema.

 

also, valerian on its own can induce vivid dreaming/night terrors.  might be the culprit, or a contributer at least?

Mucuna  Pruriens makes me extremely depressed, and super mellow, kills my libido and my drive. I think I already have excess dopamine...It's weird bc tyrosine makes me mellow but not depressed like that. I think tyrosine wasn't converting to L-dopa that much so it's pretty worthless to me in either case.

Valerian on its own doesn't seem to affect my dreaming. It just calms me.

 

Catuaba, mu gua, cordyceps although dopaminergics aren't really used for this purpose. Although, Cordyceps like Reishi is linked to increased slow-wave sleep if I remember correctly.

 

One interesting addition could be Calea Dream herb. I tried it 4 years ago and had the strangest dream where I was in a magical medieval world. But the herb tastest damn awful.

Dopamine has inhibitory qualities too. Tyrosine for me is more noradrenergic for some reason.

 

Interesting that it kills your libido. In my case it's the opposite. In fact, one side effect was that I would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night with an erection and an orgasmic state similar to that build-up state just before ejaculation. It would last for like 15 minutes and would be very pleasurable, hehe. This was when also taking Phenibut though.

Revisiting Mucuna and having dreams full of joy and there's also romantic themes. Gonna get myself some Reishi next week. The dreams on the combo were really next level. I remember a futuristic dream of the city I live in where I had some strange supernatural skills.

which mucuna are you buying? ive tried several brands and it was hit or miss. most of them were useless.

 

or maybe try this https://ltdlabs.com/product/lotus/ which claims to cause lucid dreaming. never tried it, but the ingredients are the ones ive tried separate that caused some lucid dreaming for me. ill especially recommend just getting galantamine by itself actually. you can read a lot about this and dreams by googling. its very potent, but ive tried only the synthetic version and this product claims natural extract, not sure how potent...

I am using Ojio, Mucuna Pruriens Powder, 3.53 oz (100 g), half to one teaspoon on empty stomach. One teaspoon might actually be too much I'm starting to think.

 

Yeah I've heard about galantamine for this purpose, might give it a try. That product contains melatonin which tends to give me quite awful headaches the next day though.

im curious to hear about your galantamine experience if you ever go that route. melatonin also makes me groggy and depressed next day, not sure the reason. i will suggest as i have sent these guys email, try the ingredients separate to see what works best.

I am taking reishi daily in a relatively low dose, and I am dreaming a lot. I wonder if this makes my sleep less restful.

 

Calea zacatechichi/ternifolia works well to induce strange dreams reminiscient of salvia scapes, but is very very bitter. Mayan pyramids also featured, as were archetypal themes.

Silene capensis is much easier to ingest as you only need the minutest amounts of an extract, but the themes are markedly different. Silene initiatory dreams feature the colour white prominently. This also happened to me one of the first times I took it. Silene builds up in your body when you take it for a few days, making the effects stronger. Traditionally it is taken in the morning. The dreams are spectacular, but as I dream a lot anyways, I only use it when I want subconscious guidance for self-work.

 

Melatonin dreams are very strange, mostly in the beginning. Leaves me groggy, so I only use it to reinitiate my circadian cycle after being out all night. For that it is perfect.

 

 

@Galaxyshock I am also a big fan of reishi. Do you take it daily, and at what dose and which source? Also, do you do retention practice? It makes a great difference in lucidity.

Whenever I have Reishi I take it daily, half a teaspoon to one teaspoon dose once or twice a day. I experimented up to 4 heaping teaspoons a day but didn't find it to produce enough extra effects to keep the dosage so high. It's dual-extracted product sold by Finnish vendor imported from China. I should be getting 40 grams of it pretty soon.

 

African dream root / Silene capensis seems pretty interesting, it would cost me €29 for 25 grams of whole powdered root from local vendor. Might try it some time, just taking a lot of stuff right now and can't afford everything hehe. What is effective dose of the whole herb?

 

Another good thing about Mucuna seems to be that I get away with less amount of sleep. 6-7 hours feels quite enough whereas I usually required about 10 hours to not feel tired during the day.

Silene capensis is very potent. I source it from maya-ethnobotanicals.com and I only have to use 1/8-1/4 tsp to have interesting dreams. You put it in water and froth it until it foams and then drink that. TBH I haven't tried larger doses.

 

Yeah, I also have a very large adaptogen stack, so no mucuna for me right now.

ive tried both calea and silene capensis with nothing noticeable. they become famous for "lucid dreaming" by some guy who went on forums proposing they actually work. bunch of people including me fell for it and brought a bunch from maya botanicals, to this day none of the group claims they felt anything :/

That is infortunate, that same silene is greatly potent in the minutest doses for me. The calea also worked, but with a very different spirit. Do you use the silene in the traditional way as I described above?
