By targetting senescent cells, one can rejuvenate an organism:  such cells are not only non-functional, they release poisons that affect their neighbors, leading to many of the diseases of aging.

The CellAge project is developing substances that identify such cells in different cell types, enabling the development of treatments for specific maladies associated with aging.

 

Do contribute via the link on the pink bar at the bottom, below the thread so Longecity can match your contribution dollar for dollar.   If you want some of the swag Lifespan.io offers for contributions, Longecity will share your information.  For $25 you can have your name encoded in DNA.  Larger contributor prizes include ah hour video conference with Aubrey De Grey, or stay in a castle in Scotland...

After yesterday's advertisement by lifespan.io and LongeCity, our sub-goal was quickly reached!

 

In fact, with the LongeCity support this means CellAge have now been able to reach their adjusted initial goal!  

 

Many warm thanks to all those who contributed to this brilliant result!  

 

 

Still in sight are the "stretch goals"  

 

$40,000:Stretch goal 1 – Assembly and screen After we have designed our senescent cell specific genetic circuits, our next goal will be to perform the actual DNA assembly, along with screening for functionality. This stage will require an additional $20,000 in funding for DNA synthesis, cloning and functionally testing our promoters in different cell types through the use of flow cytometry and microscopy. At the end of this stage, we will have our lead promoters identified.

With the help of LongeCity, the many donors large and small and some external contributors not listed on the donors list, the overall fundraiser has now been closed with resounding success.

 

We will keep an eye on how the research progresses -with a particular interest in the LongeCity-sponsored sub-goal- and keep the community informed. 

 

This project has also been useful in considering potential broader collaborations between LongeCity and lifespan.io. This will be considered during our current Budget discussions.

The latest update from CellAge on 18th May:

Dear Backers, here is a quick update on delivering crowdfunding rewards. We have already sent out stickers, flash drives, iPhone 7 and made a Wall of Fame. Now we are about to send out Marty the Robot to people who are waiting! Video calls and conference to follow shortly!

 

They have also completed a seed round with Kizoo technology which is owned by Michael Greve of Forever Healthy. They continue to develop the biomarker as discussed and we are hoping to hear some news later this year and hopefully that news is researchers have a new senescent cell biomarker.
