Hey guys. So HGW seems to be a very viable option for dealing with ssri related sexual dysfunction. The ssri is working fabulously for my depression so I dont really want to go off it.

 

I have some history of tinnitus and extremely mild hearing loss. I know HGW is a natural pde5 inhibitor to some extent. Could taking it cause the same hearing related side effects as other pharma pde5 inhibitors?

 

I read this from enttoday article stated by an ent MD related to pde5 associated hearing loss:

 

"According to Dr. Saunders, there are two main physiologic mechanisms proposed, both of which are implicated in hearing loss and cellular aptosis in the ear. The PDE-5 inhibitors cause a blockage of the breakdown of intracellular cGMP in the hair cell that may potentiate the harmful effects of nitric oxide, or the increased accumulation of cGMP may induce expression of mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinases and/or nuclear factor-KB (NF-KB). Both the excessive nitric oxide effects and these secondary intracellular regulators have been implicated in hearing loss."

 

 

Is there anyone knowledgeable on this?

Harmful effects of PDE inhibitors really only happen at ridiculous doses (several 100mg tablets daily, or dosing more than once a day for an extended time).

 

HGW is really not as strong in the PDE5 inhibiting department. By all means try it out, there should be no real risk.
