I was thinking about picking up some benfotiamine as an interesting form of vitamin B1. While eating a cyclical ketogenic paleo diet, lately a little low in meat, my B1 intake is often on the low side and ketones can be high between workouts.

I've read that B1 (particularly benfotiamine) reduces the glycation that might be produced during ketosis from methylglyoxal production, while also reducing the glycation from dietary carbs (which requires some B1 for proper insulin signaling & metabolism.) I believe it's also being tested as a cognitive protecting agent.

I've read that much of this magic works through the activation of transketolase, which seems to be implicated in promoting cancer.  This thread has expressed some of these concerns: http://www.longecity...ncer-risk-quit/

The KAL brand of benfotiamine also includes B6 (P5) + B12 (methylcobalamin) + Biotin + Chromium Picolinate.  While I don't need any more B12 in my supplement regimen, I have been on the lookout for low-dose P5P which is surprisingly difficult to find as a standalone supplement.  Looking at chromium, I came across additional concerns: https://en.wikipedia...ty_and_toxicity

So, ultimately, I'm wondering -- are there any legitimate pro-carcinogenic concerns with having 150-300mg of benfotiamine + 100mcg chromium with my high carb post-workout meals?

P5P is a terrible thing to overdose on, it causes all kind of issues, irritability, anxiety and so on. I do not recommend daily supplement with it, even at only 100% of the rda let alone megadoses. If you must, it should be b complex.

On cronometer, I average around 2mg/d of B6.  This benfotiamine (B1) tablet would include 2mg (or a 0.6mg bump if taken twice a week and rounded out over the daily average.)

I've got the TT MTHFR gene, and the ApoE4 gene, both raising the risk of alzheimer's.  On this article, ~3-4mg looked like the sweet spot: http://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/9/1/53

In general, I'm more curious about tacking on the B1 via fat-soluble benfotiamine, which will seemingly lower glycation... but I'm not sure if there are pro-carcinogenic concerns (particularly when very insulin sensitive and consuming this around cyclical carby meals.)

If you want to make amazing anti glycation combo, get turmeric, clove, and black seed from iherb - frontier/starwest botanicals  (organic versions) and you will have amazing protection from ANYTHING.
