Anyone tried dizocilpine (MK-801) or mianserin for numbed emotions? They both sound very promising in curing anhedonia induced by chronic stress (what I have) or SS. Studies on mice/rats show the effectiveness of those two drugs for anhedonia, but I am not finding many reports on actual beings. The very few that tried mianserin are all saying it worked for them, and information on humans trying dizocilpine is inexistent. I'm currently in trial of an MAOI for my anhedonia, will add a tricyclic, and also lithium if still no results. Also might add tianeptine. I'm going to give adderall a try with my Nardil as well. Before that, the only anti depressantsI I tried were tianeptine, NSI, Wellbutrin and mushrooms separately, all did something, but the effects weren't strong enough for me to continue those. Maybe if I took them all at the same time it, would have helped more. Stimulants wise, coffee works nicely for a couple hours, although tolerance builds up quick and I have to wait a week or two each time. Cigarettes restore me completely, but only for a couple minutes everyday. By the way, do you guys know if I should avoid caffeine and cigarettes, would they make me worse long term? Anyway, I thought I would give mianserin a try, then dizocilpine if I'm still not anhedonia free with the combo (thank you Jaioh for suggesting it). What do you guys think? Anyone heard about mianserin and dizocilpine? I can link the studies...

"I'm going to give adderall a try with my Nardil as well." - sound dangerous to me.

I think mianserin works by antagonizing 5HT2C which disinhibits dopamine. Mirtazapine works in the same way and it didn't worked for my anhedonia. Maybe, just maybe small improvement - nothing much.

Adderall... I used ethylphenidate which improved my anhedonia in about ~70% but it only works for couple of hours and comedown was awful. I stopped using it. Adderall is a realeaser of dopamine and more toxic so watch out.

No, adderal with MAOIs is safe if you are careful and don't take a high dose.

I did some research and mianserin doesn't have the same mechanism of action as Mirtazapine. It's also full of reports of it helping for anhedonia induced by chronic stress which is what I am suffering from. If you read about Mirtazapine, it's not the same... the odds of mianserin working to bring my emotions back are most likely higher. I don't know about how you personally got your anhedonia tho. There's also dizocilpine that should be effective for me, but again, combining Nardil with other drugs might be the answer for me.

I'll see how I react to adderall, I'm reading a few reports of people successfully hitting remission with stimulants and MAOIs.

If you actually use Adderall, which I DON'T recommend, then be very careful with the dose... there IS reports of Amphetamine causing anhedonia from excessive use, yes? You don't know what your limit is - so be careful.

I'm trying to look into the data on Anhedonia (interestingly, I think my most recent cycle of NSI-189 is starting to work - my activity is up, and my resilience to the mental pain an ADHD-er gets from doing this type of research-work has increased) but the most promising review I found is behind paywalls... it's possible to get around it though, methinks, give me some time to work it out, or just have a look at the abstract yourself and get a hold of the study.

Treatment for Anhedonia: A Neuroscience Driven Approach: 2015 ADAA Scientific Research Symposium: Treatment for Anhedonia

Some fresh stuff, new ideas on how to treat the problem, driven by the latest findings.

Anyways, try the MAOI with a Tricyclic instead of Adderall first - also, please remember that Norepinephrine syndrome is an actual thing - it's often described as "medication-induced hypertensive crisis" but that's not really entirely accurate to what's happening - just as you get psychosis from too much dopamine, and Serotonin-Syndrome from too much Serotonin, Norepinephrine can mess you up royally as well, if you overload your body with it.

How I can get full pdf? Maybe I'll show it to my psychiatrist and neurologist.

Yeah... I think I'm just going to try adderall one time so I can enjoy myself for a day finally. A simple cigarette also does the trick, but it only last a couple minutes unfortunately :( Also...there's better ways of figuring out if a med works, like listening to music, being more active could just be placebo. Honestly...I don't know why you guys aren't trying my drugs? Michael, if you never tried MAOIs with other drugs what are you doing? Dizocilpin and mianserin also sound very promising compared to all the random solutions you can find that only works for a few or stop working after two weeks. Well... it's like you guys want

Michael, if you never tried MAOIs with other drugs what are you doing?

Waiting for genetic tests. Then, I don't f. know... It's hard to do anything when ur brain just can't work like it should. I feel EXTREMELY EMPTY and apathethic. You ever head of avolition? That symptom gotten more intense. Maybe bcuz of my Hashimoto (not diagnosed yet but suggested after ultrasound of my thyroid) or maybe it's getting worse.

Yeah I know what avolition is of course. I think everyone has that with anhedonia but I can deal with it kind of. When I have sex or watch porn though... it gets very bad so I have been keeping away from that, barely gives me any pleasure anyway. If you feel like shit and have very low energy, take a cold shower, just do it it's not too hard. It will give you a little boost. If you're diagnosed with thyroid problems then it might be good news, it means there's probably something you can do about it and you will feel better. If I was you though, I'd use the little motivation I have and print papers and think about what you will say to your psychiatrist to convince him to put you on an MAOI + NTP. Take a stimulant even you feel like shit after, listen to music and you'll feel good enough to have the motivation to do that. Don't wait for genetic tests to do that, you can't keep living like this. My advice :) trying to help you

Michael probably has Schizophrenia though, so I don't think a traditional stimulant is a very good idea for him - I know you meant well though, you probably missed the recent discussions about this on his thread.

Are you aware that I took ethylphenidate? If I could develop psychotic symptoms - I would be on antipsychotics right now.

I was unaware of this... that was very brash Michael - could have ended badly.

And why ETHYLphenidate of all things?? : | Research on this drug is miniscule compared to Methylphenidate - and it's known to have much shorter half-life and is much harder to dose correctly.

Terrible choice! I would have gone with Modafinil, for a first trial of a stimulating compound.

EDIT:
Although, I must admit... it does make me somewhat hesitant to label you as on the Schizophrenic spectrum - maybe your Psychiatrist is right after all?

Ethylphenidate because it was available in my country. I couldn't convince my doc to prescribe methylphenidate. Only when I talked about my trial with ethylphenidate I got prescription for methyl. I was just desperate. Months, years of anhedonia and apathy can make your decision making bad.

And yes, MAYBE, just maybe my psychiatrist is right and I've got something neurological. I don't know what is worse - simple schizo or "something neurological". Grey matter deficits, frontal atrophy - it's all in simple schizo.

But who know - maybe simple schizo it's not schizo, maybe it's something yet uncategorised and it's mimicking negative symptoms just like in patients with FTD, depression, hypothyroidism...?
