The price of pure curcumin by the pound has gone thru the roof. I'd like to know the effective percentage of curcumin need to add to a blend of turmeric and curcumin to relieve chronic inflammation in the primary joints of my hands. I understand there are some piperine  amounts that also enhance the effects of the turmeric plus curcumin.

I realize that turmeric has a certain amt. of curcumin. I've seen claims of 5 to 7 percent. I'd like to make my own blend again. I'm about to run out of my 50/50 mix and the prices of pure curcumin are scary.

Thanks if you can help.

Ron

Bioavailability determines the amount and what you are trying to do.  I think liposomal formulation is the the most bioavailable AFAIK.  That means Longvida formulation of curcumin.  I think about 650 mg creates a bioavailable amount of 22 ng/mL as a peak plasma value.

I'm unclear on the pro-oxidant effects of curcumin at this level.

This is a tough call here because on one hand you can take piperine with it and get 2000% more bioavailability, on the other hand you can get too much and piperine has its down sides.

Curcumin with a fat source like meat or cheese or fish or whatever, guarantees you get some absorption but not sure to what degree.

If you do it with piperine I wouldn't exceed 500mg and I wouldn't do it more often than 3 out of 7 days. There's reports about DNA damage on one hand but greatly diminished inflammatory markers on the other. Depending on how much is absorbed. At best if you go the fat route you'll at least get a strong anti-inflammatory effect on the digestive system but you may not get as much of the other full body anti-inflammatory effects... but then again it might just be the right amount.

Examine.com has a great article on curcumin, you should definitely consult that.  Nutritionfacts.org also has some other stuff on it.

The dose makes the poison, and curcumin is a plant hormetic compound much like sulforaphane and the polyphenols in olive oil. Lower doses are often more beneficial than higher when it comes to things like that.

I think there's more evidence for fish oil than curcumin in terms of depression help, but you have to consider the fact that a supplement is only going to do so much.

Depression isn't conquered with a pill, but with a complete lifestyle overhaul. It took me 30 years to figure it out and so far, 2 years and no suicidal relapses.

Here's some real hints but keep in mind this is only 6 of them. Try improv comedy and sauna as well.

nate, ive done all of that already, the 6 solutions to depression video you posted. in my case its more biochemical imbalance due to alcohol and drug abuse rather than just not getting enough sunlight, social life, or good sleep. and i do take omega 3s, but first time i hear they go bad unless refrigerated. it doesnt state anywhere on the bottle it needs refrigeration. wow, now thats interesting. so if they are spoiled, how would i know anyway, and how are they bad for you? do they do the opposite effect, actually cause depression instead of helping it??

Not sure about negative effects of spoiled fish oil but yes they need refrigeration. Get Viva Naturals brand as they rate highest quality on Labdoor. I refrigerate immediately after I receive it from Amazon.

Also try to nutritionally balance your omega 6:3 ratio using this as a reference.

A smoothie with these ingredients for example is high on the omega 3 (ALA) side: 2 cups Water, 2-4 Kale leaves,  3 oz Spinach, 1 tomato, 3 tbsp ground flax, 2-4oz blueberries. That covers all the micronutrients as well.

If you're drinking a lot your sleep is going to suffer a lot. Quality sleep is better than quantity. Stay within 7 to 7.5 hrs a night.

If it's weed, try to cut down a bit, it's not as bad as alcohol on sleep but it does prevent REM cycle while extending stage 4. If you have problems with will power, try the sauna. Increases in BDNF from exercise and sauna use are very effective in boosting one's capacity to do more.

Regularly listing 20 things about your life that are going well, like doing this every day, over a long period of time like 6 months can have a profound effect in developing a part of the brain that more naturally searches for the positives. You're probably already adept at finding negatives, it's all skill. Meditation helps too. All these things can be done in the sauna to kill three birds with one 20 min session. Download the headspace app, put some bluetooth headphones in there, leave the phone in the locker, go into the sauna and sit there for 20 mins doing the meditation.

How creative are you every day?

I hate to say this, but unless you do all these things consistently at least 4 times a week you're not going to beat it. It sucks, but it's one of those "have to's".

Also try microdosing 5ug of LSD one morning if you get a chance,

Side note if you decide to add LSD microdoses to the mix of all those other things, only do it once a week in the morning so your sleep is not disturbed.

oh yeah lsd definitely disturbs my sleep. but why suggest lsd instead of shrooms? i havent tried shrooms but i heard they were more natural but similar to lsd. and i agree 100% lsd is magic for depression as i felt completely renewed on it the few times i took it. but your suggestion is almost impossible to be accomplished since its absolutely the most difficult thing to obtain lsd!

i think it's trial and error really, but anywhere from 1000mg - 2000mg per day should be effective
Efficacy of Turmeric Extracts and Curcumin for Alleviating the Symptoms of Joint Arthritis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials

Alternatively, some products like Meriva have been clinically tested, and would probably be my personal curcumin choice for joint issues (500 mg / 2 times daily)

Efficacy and safety of Meriva®, a curcumin-phosphatidylcholine complex, during extended administration in osteoarthritis patients

It's surprisingly cheap (like $10 per 30 days if you have prime and clip the 15% off coupon) https://www.amazon.c.../dp/B00CAYNWY0/ but you can buy it other places too like iherb, wherever

Don't waste time with curcumin, get turmeric, add black pepper, grapefruit, oil, and cloves with rosemary (CAREFUL IF YOU GOT HIGH BP!) DO NOT MIX THIS WITH ANY MEDS, you must leave out 3h before or after!

This is extremely powerful combo, so please careful!

Dosage

Turmeric 2 grams MAX, clove 500mg, rosemary 500mg, if you can afford then add CO2 total extracted turmeric oil and ginger as well, you can use a maximum of 1 drop of both per day!

It can raise your bp if you are diabetic or you got a problem with it, clove and ginger are hot - pungent, this is why, usually is not problem but i just state that one must be careful if he has that condition.
