You know, I spend 6 months agonizing over a mole-sized, irregular, raised, pink bump on my arm before I made an appointment with a dermatologist. It took me 3 months to get in. So after worrying for 9 months, he looks at it and says immediately, it's nothing. Then all the raised, flaking, itching red lesions pretty much all over my body, he just calls eczema. I go, whhaaatt?? It's not a systemic, out-of-control bacterial skin infection with necrosis?!? Are you sure?!?!? He laughs and says sorry, no. Spend less time on the internet. Hands me a tube of hydrocortizone 1%. Of course then he diagnoses my scalp as psoriasis. But I had already guessed that. Not life threatening, just annoying. New shampoo.
My point is -- the reason why you see a dermatologist is that the patient always assumes the worst. Don't diagnose yourself. It'll just drive you nuts. Find an expert specialist doctor to look at it in person. Probably nothing to worry about.
