(I already opened a topic a while ago about sudden joint problems I'm experiencing. As that topic is more related to supplements, I hope I can open a new topic.)

I'm female, in my late twenties:

  • I have suffered for >10 years since my first menstrual cycle from debilitating endometriosis
  • and the past years from IBS - this has been concluded by my GP, but I've wondered for a while I may in fact suffer from mild IBD. However she doesn't want to run tests.
  • As of recently my GP (and I) think it is very likely I suffer from autoimmune inflammatory arthritis - I seem to have all the symptoms, and will be seeing a rheumatologist soon.

My first thought has been that one condition is likely to be related to the other - both endometriosis and inflammatory autoimmune arthritis are inflammatory diseases after all. My GP seems not to agree. (Her suggested treatment method is pain killers/anticonception (which I don't take) for the endometriosis, and medication as will be prescribed by my rheumatologist for the arthritis).

  • I'm currently looking into some publications and both endometriosis and autoimmune inflammatory arthritis seem to coincide with raised IL-17 levels (I saw research that suggested surgical removal of instances of endometriosis may lower IL-17 levels).
  • I'm looking into the role of leukotrienes in both autoimmune arthritis and endometriosis.

But all in all, admittedly I'm not sure what to look at, and am wondering if anyone may have some more suggestions - as I feel I'm losing track going through paper after paper, and could use some input from people that are surely better informed than I am.

Thusfar I had my thyroid levels tested 3-4 weeks ago as well as WBC and erythrocyte sedimentation rate, both were in (the upper limit) of normal ranges. However, I will get it tested again soon. Early January I should get more complete blood work done (ANA-test, Anti-CCP, CBC, again WBC and ESR  etc).

Many thanks!

Try lowering your body of arachidonic-acid (AA). AA is used to synthesize many immune-related cytokines.

Leni - I've stumbled on your thread as I've been doing some reading about rheumatoid arthritis.....In my case I'm curious about my late father's RA (I know he had a raised level of some chemical in his blood before developing it.....and I'm going to try and find out what that raised level was......I'm wondering if it was anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide.

But back to you, I found this article, it's not directly what you're talking about, it's about contraceptive devices.....but it seems to suggest if there's uterine inflammation that might raise blood levels of chemicals that could trigger arthritis.....(suggesting treatment of the endometriosis might be enough?)

Just off the top of my head (or net search, lol)....if I find anything else more relevant I'll come back, good luck.

Curious if there are any refs for this misterE....as I'm keen to find any natural preventive measures myself  :-)

I wish I saw this thread before. My suggestion for Leni would be to look into mycoplasma. It has been associated with each of the listed conditions. It used to be difficult to diagnose, but now there are new PCR tests.

So a low-fat plant-based diet with sources of omega-3 and avoidance of omega-6 fatty-acids would be my first recommendation. Perhaps aspirin and flaxseed might be of particular help, but lowering total-fat intake should help reduce the stores of arachidonic-acid and PGE2 synthesis, plus you can further dilute it out with omega-3. Aspirin is a potent inhibitor of PGE2, which lowers the estrogen and inflammation involved with endometriosis.

What about IUD? Any luck there? Not sure that addresses the inflammation but it might at least alleviate the problem. Otherwise, what's your diet like as far as nuts, seeds and other anti-inflammatory foods?
